Leaked NASA paper shows the 'impossible' EM Drive really does work http://www.sciencealert.com/leaked-nasa-paper-shows-the-impossible-em-drive-really-does-work Pretty cool if the additional testing to rule out thermal expansion goes well.
Wow! The article has a tripping stone right up front. "The issue is the fact that the EM Drive defies Newton's third law, which states that everything must have an equal and opposite reaction." Why the heck would the writer draw attention to what obviously isn't happening. Not all force in universe is necessarily countered by an observable reaction. EM? What is this? This thing works off RF cavity resonates which can be tuned in a magnetic field. It has been know for years. All most 60 years ago, I worked on a project using a Magnetron oscillator to generate an RF beam (Modified Mark 25 FC Radar) to detect a localized magnetic field (Submarine). It works, so I don't know why you would be talking about reaction as Newton described. The reaction may indeed exist somewhere that is completely irrelevant to where you are. Funny, I thought of this project this spring as I was passing the long steel Railroad bridges in both Coos Bay and over the Columbia near Vancouver. Going by either of these bridges under autopilot control is not a good idea. The local concentration of the earths magnetic field by this local mass of iron will jerk your magnetic compass around rather suddenly and result in the boat making a sharp turn, right in the the bridge. So the compass turns, where is the opposite reaction? The North magnetic pole you say? Perhaps but how about when you are in deep space? Or even between Earth and Mars? Creating a device that can hook up with forces known to exist, doesn't violate laws of physics, unless you try to use the wrong one to explain the action.
