The regressive left does need to be banished to the dustbin of history -- as much as alt-right white nationalism and bigotry of all kinds. All of these puritanical movements are a threat to discourse and civil society and need to be resisted, but from within their own coalitions. When it's reduced to right versus left people double down and become even more extreme in their views.
Fucking brilliant, its exactly what I have been saying since the beginning of the primaries. I'm going (or should) post this on every facebook feed where Clinton supporters are trying to blame Bernie Bros still. I just had a conversation with someone who says anyone who didn't vote for Clinton didn't do so because of lack of education, they were to lazy, or they were to stoned. Fuck all of them.
He's right though. I didn't support Trump, but I honestly feel like I can't speak my mind in Portland. I felt that way at PSU. I feel that way on facebook because I have liberal friends. I posted that I was annoyed about the protests and someone unfriended me and blocked me. That's all that I said. That I was annoyed with the protests because they were fucking up my commute. I imagine a lot of people voted for Trump for a lot of different reasons. Take mags as a perfect example. His daughter is a lesbian. He lives in California. He's not your average racist, bigoted Republican that everyone seems to make Trump voters out to be, and yet he was a fierce supporter of Trump. To dismiss all of the people who voted for him as bigots and racists is to completely misunderstand why Trump won. That's essentially what this video is saying, and I agree.
It may be a semi-satirical character but it's tough to fake that kind of disgust. Anyway, I just thought this spoke a certain kind of truth that people ought to give a listen.
Yep. Until both 'teams' can stop looking at each other as opponents and realize we all live in the same country it's only going to get worse. We're going to destroy ourselves from within unless people can become more understanding of the other side and start to work on making concessions and compromise. The answer for democrats at the moment is not to become more extreme, but less. People can bitch about the government all the want, but at the moment the people are the problem - both the hate crimes and the protests/riots. It's not helping anyone, it's escalating the problem. It's just making those with differing opinions dislike you even more. And around and around we go. Neither side seems remotely capable of doing that though, so we're all fucked. Cheers.
I just want to be able to say "Hey baby" like Butthead from MTV to 30 year old women now that I'm over 40. Is that too much to ask?
The powers that be have intentionally chosen highly contentious topics to get behind. Things like gay marriage, abortion, death penalty, gun rights, etc. These are issues that most people are unwilling to see a middle ground. This distracts people from looking at things like the economy, or defense budget, or education, or healthcare.
Wow, someone who actually understands even if it was a character. Thanks for sharing. Pretty much every reason why I voted Trump.
Where he's wrong is that LOTS of us hate Clinton. LOTS of Dems stayed home. THAT'S why Trump won. We didn't choose her. She was THRUST upon us by the DNC. I voted for BERNIE. FUCK Clinton.
