I am going to be a freshman in college next year and I've beeen waiting for vista to come out before I buy my new laptop. Does anyone know a good laptop to get, especially for a student? The one im looking at most is the Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384
My college gives me one my Freshman year, have to return it after Sophomore year, then they give you one for Junior year and you keep it for life, so I'm covered on this one.
It really depends what you use the computer for. If you just want something that you can use like AIM and the Internet for, any old P.O.S. will work. A few questions, Do you download a ton of music? Are a hardcore gamer? I know you do a little bit of graphics, Are you planning on going into a computer related field? If so, which one?
http://www.pcworld.com/product/specs/prtpr...3380/specs.html- I do listen to quite a bit of music on the computer- I just play one computer game (counter-strike)- Yeah, like you said, some adobe photoshopppin- I'm goign to be majoring in accounting, so im sure ill need a reliable computer but I just dont know what program im goign to be using in college.
For about 2500 you can get yourself a really nice and reliable laptop that won't quit on you.http://www.voodoopc.com/system/quotekitche...?productID=1078If thats to expensive, tell me your price range and I'll see whats the best I can find.
In terms of reliability on a Windows Based Machine (Since you wanted Vista), I'd recommend getting a Dell. A high level Inspiron machine like I posted below would probably work well for you. For the Gaming and the Photoshop, your going to want a Machine with 1 GB Memory minimum, and a decent Video Card, so if you have any money left in your budget, that's where I'd recommend spending it.http://www.dell.com/content/products/produ...;l=en&s=dhs
Thanks, thats a real nice computer. My dad has one actually, but I believe with the toshiba, you can expand the memory more (something like 4GB). Also, ideally, I would like someone 15.4- forgot to add that earlier. But thanks, I will defintely look into some dells because my dad has one and its pretty nice and reliable.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KCX @ Feb 1 2007, 08:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>haha ya im just saying I could run that computer so fast</div>More memory doesn't really make a computer move any faster, It just doesn't slow it down due to a lack of memory. Right now, 2 Gigs of Memory is plenty for any average homeowner right now where you shouldn't get slowed down unless your running about 10 programs at once. And like I said, by the time you need 4 Gigs of Memory (Which is at least a few years away), your machine will probably be obsolete anyways, so you midas well just get a new machine then.

http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=202That one looks good to me, I'm not all that great with laptop parts but your getting a dual core processor which is great for having multiple programs, 1 gig of ram which you can upgrade for $100 more to 2 gigs, and a pretty sweet video card. If you have the money to upgrade the ram I'd definitely buy this.
