This Miller vs Thompson discussion is silly.
It's the same argument people made for Ibaka or other 2nd/3rd options on offense for other teams vs Aldridge when he was in Portland.
Miller > Thompson and it's not close.
Defenses first key to beat the Pacers when Reggie was playing is to slow/stop Miller. Which a lot of times didn't happen.
Defenses Thompson's entire career has been to stop Curry first. Now it's even further tilted away from him as defenses want to stop Durant or Curry, then Thompson.
It's not a knock on Thompson and he more than likely could handle the #1 at times.
But Thompson has never really had to play without Curry for a significant of time. So no one knows how he'd do.
Simply because a few games against one of the worst defenses/teams to ever make the playoffs isn't a good meter to measure yourself by.

Defensive ability can't really measure it either.
Reggie never had the ability to really focus defensively and know he didn't have to score to give his team a chance to win.
Thompson knows that he doesn't have to score a single point most nights and his team still has a good chance to win.

 

And as I stated before, the number of truly gifted shooting guards in the league is minimal at the moment. Compared to when Reggie played, it's abysmal. We're having a point guard renaissance right now, and at that time there were a ton of really good shooting guards. Reggie's career spanned the late 80's to the early 2000's, so he saw a ton of great two guards.

I'd say Klay Thompson is Rip Hamilton with more range.

 

What about Kevin Faried? He's reportedly been on the block, and he's more attainable without giving up CJ. I think it's evident that this team needs a hard nosed interior guy like him.

 

Gorgui Dieng might be another possibility.

 

I wonder if he might be a better option than Nerlens Noel? I think he is healthier, a little bigger, shoots a higher %, especially on free throws, has almost as many blocks. doesn't turn it over as much.

 

What about a Slav? They always seem to have amazing skill whenever we play them. Some guy with a last name ending in "vic" or "ich".

I'd be happy with that.

I've looked all around the league and I keep coming back to Philly as the most likely trade partner. They have what we need, and we have what they need.

 

You don't think the Wolves could use an Allen Crabbe?

 

I really don't. They would have the same problem that we have. You don't want to pay a guy on the bench $85 million, and they already have young guys with arguably more promise. I would take Zach LaVine over Crabbe. They've got Wiggins at small forward. I think Crabbe is better than Shabazz Muhammad, but now we're circling back around to the price tag for a bench player.

 

The conspiracy theorist in me is wondering if Aminu's injury is actually just a stipulation from our trading partner to ensure that he doesn't get injured before we complete a trade on 12/15. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.
Is it typical to be out this long for a calf strain, or whatever his "injury" is?

Its endless. Sorry @Charcoal Filtered but I think Reggie had a ton more competition than what Klay has in today's NBA.

The late 80's/90's were all about shooting guards and Reggie was one of the best.
Too bad he sucked on defense, his size and length would have made him one of the best two way players ever if he would have just given D some effort.

 

Also, let's not forget that Reggie came up during the era of hand checking and hard physical basketball from the Knicks and the Pistons.

 

Remember in like 2010 or something when we got Camby? And that guy balled out for the rest of the season and really helped us on both ends of the floor?

Tyson Chandler could play that role.

Edit: Terry and Tyson have history btw. Terry was assistant coach on that Dallas championship team with Chandler starting at C.
