I get what Stewart is trying to do. It's the same thing Romney may be trying to do. Look, if we stand back and just point out that he's a serial-lying failed steak salesman who rode to success by stoking Rust Belt white resentment, he'll get all sulky and sink even lower in his basement surrounded by the very worst of the very worst. And yes, if we REALLY think that all the people who voted Trump are like the people writing swastikas everywhere and chanting "Build The Wall" - then America really won't be like we fondly thought it might be. So yes, there must be some kindly Grannies who voted Trump. But then you've got to wonder why all the "grab them by the pussy" and "murderers and rapists" and "ban on muslims entering this country" and walking in on Miss Teen USA pageant contestants in the hope of seeing them naked and all that didn't give them pause.
