haha a good comparison to Jeff Hornaceck? How can you say Trajan Langdon was a bad comparison and Jeff Hornaceck was a great comparison? That doesn't make any sense. Langdon and Redick were identical players coming out of college, both could nail the 3, both were similar sizes. You're distinction between the two of them is that Redick moves well without the ball? That's such a bad distinction, moves well without the ball, half the guards in the NBA move well without the ball, that doesn't make JJ special because he can move. Also, don't say Redick is a hard working defender when you know at best he's a mediocre defender. Also if you're going to compare him to Hornaceck, do it simply on scoring. Hornaceck averaged 1.5 steals or better every season of his career. I doubt Sir Redick will even come close to that.
Comparisons are never dead on. Jon Redick (sick of typing 'J.J.', put that in your notes WTTJ that his real name is Jonathan) was an above average defender at Duke, Coach K said he was one of the best defenders he's coached. Of course, people want to stereotype him as the small white guard that can't play defense....I can honestly say I've only watched him in the NBA for like 15 minutes during a Bucks game a few weeks ago...I'll wait til next year to evaluate his defense. In my opinion he's just more compariable to Hornacek. Langdon was simply a jumpshooter who didn't play defense, didn't hustle or have a work ethic, thats why he never made it in the NBA...I watched Hornacek a lot when the Jazz played the Bulls in the late 1990's. Both can shoot the lights out, both are quick, move well without the ball, play good defense and have a strong work ethic/play hard. Langdon was a classic jump shooting softy. I think Redick is clearly more talented than Langdon was. I think Sir Redick is a good nickname, and fitting considering the type of player he could be some day. For now on I'm calling him Sir Redick. haha.
Thanks for your words of inspiration BCB. I'll make sure to note J.J.'s name is Jonathan. Anything else I can do to emulate your superior BBW status just let me know.

I would like to be addressed as something of higher rank...I'm not sure what is yet but I'll let you know in a PM when I figure it out.
BCB, Redick moved without the ball alot at the college level because he was the centerpiece of that offense. The team made tons of screens to get him the ball for a shot. At the NBA level, his teammattes arent looking to get him open like that. He has been hit with injury early on in his career, but that cant help any. Not being able to play in his rookie season.... Even when he has been able to play, he hasnt impressed too many people. He isnt athletic either. He WAS good at getting open at the college level, but that wasnt due to his athleticism. He was a decent defendeer at the college level, but he doesn't have the quickness to stick with fast players in the NBA game. At BEST in his career is he going to get 16 PPG. And that is at the very best.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>At BEST in his career is he going to get 16 PPG. And that is at the very best.</div>I agree with what you're saying ballerman, especially about how JJ was the centerpiece of an offense in college and he won't be at the NBA level. But to be fair, BCB's original point was that JJ at full potential will be a 15 ppg player.
Yeah, I'm just saying, he's not going to be a garbage player....he's going to be a great role player and if he starts in Orlando he could be a solid starter/6th man that can put up 15ppg and be a huge threat from outside. I'm not saying he's going to be an all-pro defender, but at Duke he was a great defender. Obviously in the NBA it's going to be tougher but defense in the NBA is half effort.
What was hurting him earlier in the season was lack of playing time because of Injury, and teams just don't practice as much during the regular season. They try to keep their players fresher because they play 82 games in a season, and are worried about their players being to fatigured. So Redick had a hard time coming in during the season and proving himself to everyone. Then when he did get playing time his conditioning wasn't where it should be, and his strength wasn't. He wasn't having a hard time getting open, but lots of his shots were short that he put up. His shots were on target, the ball still comes off his hands as well as they come off anyone elses hands, his shots were just short. He is makingthat up though, getting stronger legs to push off with, and his shooting is getting better. In the future he is going to be a good player, doing exactly what he is best at. Being a bench scoring presence in the NBA, that will be able to stretch defenses with his shooting. He has no problem getting open, and his defense is not as bad as people think it is. He is a little slower and sometimes has a hard time keeping up when the other player goes into motion off the ball sometimes, but he will make that up with proper conditioning and practice. He try's hard on defense, slides his feet the way he is supposed to, and won't be a liability. He won't be a great defensive player, but he won't be a liability on the defensive end. I think he's going to be a good player in the future. As for the Trajan Langdon comparison, they are completely different players, and that is not a good comparison at all. Langdon wasn't the player that Redick was in college, he wasn't the shooter that Redick was in college, he didn't work to get himself open like Redick did. They was different type players in college, so what would make them the same in the NBA?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BrewCityBuck @ Feb 2 2007, 12:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>As usual you don't know what your talking about. J.J. Redick isn't slow, he isn't unathletic, he's a nice athlete, just because he doesn't have Darius Miles' arms or dunk like Desmond Mason...doesn't mean he's unathletic...your just stereotyping him...ugh...he's more quick than fast, for a 6'5" 195 pound guy he has solid speed. I would say he has adequate speed and athletic ability. He was a great defender at Duke towards the end of his career, worked very hard on his defense...How will it translate? I don't know...Considering what you said above you never watched Redick at Duke, all your doing is repeating ridiculous white stereotypes. I'm sick and tired of everyone comparing him to every slow/white/shooter in the league. Come on.</div>Yeah, I am tired of all these white guy stereotypes. There are so many athletic white guys. It's finally refreshing to see some of them being recognized as real athletes now (like Josh McRoberts and Chase Budinger)
