in that case the 40 is absolutely dwarfed by Oregon's tally and now he's down to 24 which for football is relatively nothing. So Oregon was decimated by injury this year and Sly's point is that the Beavs were able to overcome being pretty healthy to beat them. Got it!

I firmly believe that Helfrich got the job because he wasn't going to change what Chip had done.

And that was the mistake. Instead of the Ducks looking for the best coach available they wanted another Chip. "Hey, this playing fast thing is really fun! Lets do more of it!"

Helfrich isn't a bad coach but he's not an innovator. Chip took what Bellotti had done and made it better. Helfrich took what Chip had done and made it a gimmick.

Yep they wanted to just keep the train rolling but it ran out of steam. Meanwhile the rest of the FBS has innovated. And what was new is now normal.

The Ducks need to find some defensive confluency and their running game again. If their redshirt freshman line can grow strongly together this could stand as a transition year. Be interesting to see who man's the helm in 2017 to say the least.

The offense moved the ball and scored pretty well this season especially considering the youth of the OLine and QB. You would figure they'll only be better in year 2. Meanwhile the defense was historically awful lacking playmakers and having just awful luck with health. Sure am hoping a LB or two from the big haul they had last class takes big steps forward this offseason as they've had bad play there for a few seasons now.

Chip always deflected any defensive questions to Aliotti saying he didn't coach D... does Helfrich?

Canzano, ever the quick hatchet man, gave a pretty good summary of Helfrich's time as head coach of the Ducks:

And, as I said, you can tell the players don't.... fear? Respect? I'm not sure what to call it, but there just isn't the same confidence on the team anymore. Chip is a cocky SOB and it showed on the team.

Hopefully, if Chip is available they bring him back. If not, Fleck or Harsin might fit. Frost maybe.....Not sure he's ready

I just hope they don't get weak and keep him. His team is young because he's failed miserably at recruiting. The college football world has passed the Ducks by, screaming "on your right" as they fly by.
