I don't like modern Urban Cowboy country at all but roots Americana is full of soul and if you think you don't like country music.....you've probably never heard the good stuff.....a lot of Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian roots in American rural music. Ray Charles made one of my favorite country albums sans cowboy hat and the Rolling Stones made some kick ass country music..Sweet Virginia...
Im just pokin fun. i fully agree i love older country. waylon jennings is probably in my top 5 country artists. i love rock too though so i dont mind some of the newer stuff. jason aldean, for example. lots of good newer stuff if you are a rock and country fan. but for real country you do have to go back. i recently got 4 disc hank jr. greatest hits and i have to admit, i picked up joe diffie greatest hits too.
Hey watch your back..... just saw I had you on ignore. I'm not a pussy so I wouldn't have ignored you even if I had cause. Make sure Sly isn't making money off ignore... don't know who would have paid him though.
I have...love it...Etta James played the same circuit as my band in the late 70s and they blew away every band they opened for....I saw the Jerry Garcia band try to follow Etta and totally embarrass themselves.
it's ok every forum ive ever been on i figure everyone has me on ignore and im just talking to myself
I can honestly say I clicked on this not knowing who their person was. The HCP's take on country....... if it isn't old school like Johnny Cash it's shit! My one brush with country music....... Indianapolis, about 8 or 9 seasons ago on St. Patrick's Day, got stupid drunk in a tent with the singer who used to be married to Nicole Kidman! Can't remember his name, small guy all in black, and bought all the beers! I lost a TON of street cred that evening my friends!
Another guy I like to listen to is Don Walser (who passed away 10 years ago). A big ol' Texas boy who covered the old stuff and could yodel until the cows literally came home. His nickname was "The Pavarotti of the Plains". Different approach in a great way. I also recently picked up the last two albums by John Prine (In Spite Of Ourselves and For Better Or Worse). Both are collections of old standards/duets he does with country ladies past and present. Prine's voice isn't quite what it used to be due to throat cancer but they are both really good efforts. Like I said, I like the older stuff....
I was a big fan of John Hartford who died recently....he made me want to learn banjo and had great songs...
Its part of a very long road trip I will be on at that time (stay tuned for my blog). But.......if you can fly into Lubbock on Thursday afternoon (April 28) and can fly out from Abilene on Sunday afternoon (April 30) on my way further south, you're welcome to tag along. I'll have an aero bed with me so you could even crash on the floor of my room.....but you're on your own when it comes to dealing with hangovers, pissed off cowboys and newly acquired social diseases.....
If you haven't heard of Blake Shelton at this point, you are living under a fucking rock. Come on dude....
I don't listen to the radio. I am a music nut, and listen to everything from Hip Hop to Jazz to new and old rock.....even old school bluegrass. Why are you so surprised That i've never heard of him? Honestly wondering.
I mean I don't listen to country radio. I don't watch whatever the country MTV is. I don't watch the Country Grammys if they have them and don't follow anything that has to do with the Country music scene on any social media platform. Just curious why Nate is so blown away at my lack of knowledge of this hillbilly.
I've never heard a song from Blake Shelton but he's all over the Voice, to which then I have only seen bits of those episodes.
I like roots music, but don't listen to modern country. Have a great time at the show jfizz! Thats where I know him from.
its kind of counter intuitive, but most all bro country is marketed to females. a hot dude in tight pants. songs about having a job and being faithful. a guy who loves his dog, and knows how to work on cars. a guy who buys a 12 pack of bud light to share with you. at least its not the super hardcore edgy bro country where they dress in sequins and silk and trucker hats and have sleeve tattoos and rap and do boy band covers.
Well, let's see..... he's on one of the biggest shows on television (The Voice), so he's constantly on TV. He's dating Gwen Stefani and he's all over the tabloids, so you probably have seen his picture in the checkout aisle. So unless you never watch NBC, or get food from stores in person, I'm a little surprised that you have never heard of him.
i have never seen an episode of the voice. i have never bought a tabloid. but i know way more about him than i should for some reason. stalker culture is so ingrained in our fame obsessed society, its like we are born knowing this shit. it seeps into our heads while we sleep.
