For tests like the PSAT's, SAT's, and I'm guessing for college applications, you have to put your ethnicity. But everytime I encounter one of these I don't know what to put. I am half Irish, and Half Japanese. What do I put, White or Asian, or other? Do I get any benefits for choosing one or the other?
Well for me, I just put caucasian when you can only pick one. It's whatever you feel yourself more as. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Do I get any benefits for choosing one or the other?</div>Probably not if your black. :shifty2:
Do you look Japanese? If not, you gotta put Caucasian. It only helps if your state, or the state you plan to attend school in has Affirmative Action, or if its banned.
if I was you id put japanese. im native and only had a 3.4 in HS with no extra curriculars whatsoever but I got into the U of M. but this white kid I know had a 3.7 with extra curriculars and even took college classes his senior year but didnt get in.
^Affirmative Action, In Action. The Universities have set limits of requirements for each ethnicity. They have to reach those limits and have to go farther down on their lists.
Hmmm, so I guess I should probably look at some of the statistics for the colleges I'm considering, mainly Rutgers. But Asian seems like the way to go isn't it. What about other?
Your going to have to put Caucasian. Those things are designed for people born out of the United States.
I think if u select asian, they might not look as u as much, not saying its a racist thing but more stereotypic. theyd be looking like, oh its just another smart asian, who cares...
I suggest you put Asian. A lot of times when you fill out these forms, they have some considerations for scholarships already in the application process. If they give you crap about being Asian, then you can prove it with your birth certificate or whatever. It doesn't matter if you "look" Asian.

Thats like putting African American down, and having Ginger Jesus walk in.
