Roy Tarpley of the Dallas Mavericks. The guy dominated in Lakers in the 1988 WCF's, pulling 20+ rebounds a game. Former 6th man of the year. He had the world before him. Then fell apart.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pacers fan forever @ Feb 3 2007, 09:25 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>What about Earl 'The Goat' Manigault? The guy was said to be better than MJ. The guy dominated his competition like no other. But he never made it to the NBA. He ended up taking drugs while he was in college and also became a father at a young age. Pretty much he got stuck up in the bad side of NY. But he was maybe the best basketball player ever.Kareem Abdul Jabar and Wilt Chamberlin both called him the greatest player ever.</div>That a good one right there. I read about him last year. Too bad he couldn't make it to the NBA.

Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker immediately come to mind. Then Len Bias. Chris Anderson isn't too good of an example because he never really had too prestigious of a career to ruin.
