I've been fairly pleased so far. They're still finding their chemistry and the only way that happens is with time.
That's part of the trouble, me thinks. I doubt they will ever know the "back story", i.e. the Blazers history, or be vested in the back story, the way some of us are, and the way Mike and Mike are. It's just not possible. Calabro is a very good "generic" broadcaster. He calls a good game. What's lacking is soul. There is no connection. I may as well be listening to a broadcast-bot. Hurd tries too hard to be entertaining, instead of letting the game come to him. Plus he doesn't know much compared to Rice. I prefer Rice. Oh, well. C'est la vie. It's all water under the bridge. May as well go with the flow. No other choice anyway.
Calabro calls a player the wrong name at least once a game. Not the funny mispronunciatons that Rice was famous for, just flat out says the wrong guy. And he never corrects himself, like he's not even trying. I don't mind Hurd, but overall, so far, I'm not a fan.
ive heard him get leonard and lillard mixed up. seems hard to mix those 2 up seeing as how they are polar opposites.

I agree. He's usually pretty good about his basketball observations. Some of his things like "Turner did that for Kanye...he did it for Common...." are a bit odd. As the article states, they are a bit too corporate, while Mike and Mike were just fucking awesome.
I could just picture that suit McGowan up in the luxury box telling everyone how "fucking tight" hurds references are.
I hear what your saying, but I've never been a fan of keeping Portland "Weird" as a Moonlighting musician, I much prefer the national attention over keeping a few quirks that seem to have us thinking we are unique.
The other thing that stings is that Calabro is basically a Seattle Supersonics legend. And as Portlanders, we are raised to despise anything Seattle. As good as he is and as objective as he may be, you know on the inside he has hated the Blazers and has looked down on Portland throughout the years (which is what all Seattle people do).
Also, if and when the Sonics return, if Calabro is still around you know he's going to jump ship with the quickness.
Not true at all. That's a blanket statement like saying all blacks are felons. Or all whites are honkies. OR all Asians cant drive. Come on now. I know many people up there. Spent half my life up there. There are MANY up there who actually like Portland better but are stuck up there due to family, career,etc. Trust me when I say you are wrong that all Seattle people hate Portland.
These guys are totally fine. They do a solid job. Maybe if the team wasn't playing so shitty we would notice how good they are. Instead the product is trash this year and now everybody is bored so they pick on announcers. Can you imagine the depressed tone Barrett would have with this blazer team? Omg I don't even want to imagine
