?? I really don't understand your post Marz unless you assume I've never been a boss which I have or that I've never worked for a woman which I have. I've had a pretty satisfying career all in all....I found teaching to be rewarding in other ways but at the same time have always made pretty smart investments, just not at the expense of someone else. I can honestly say I've never profited at someone else's expense and I could've stiffed a whole crew of employees by doing what Trump did and declaring bankruptcy...instead, I sold the business...paid payroll and taxes and bills and broke even....restaurant business is tough
A million bucks certainly doesn't go near as far as it did 30 and 40 years ago, that's for sure........
First you don't know anything about my biz....my employees were well cared for and it's not a pot shot .....my response was to Marz statement that I've never worked for a man...only been a govt employee all my career..now that's a pot shot.....and sometimes it's not easy to take pot shots....say for a pro democracy student in Beijing for example....could cost your life
i assume so. but it certainly plays a large role when using an arbitrary wealth cutoff of 1MM. if you had $350,000 in 1980 it would be worth 1M in todays dollars.
No matter what you paid your people, you paid them $1/hour less than you could have. It's easy to take pot shots when you're not the target of the criticism.
OK, but 4,000 -> 64,000 millionaires in 8 years is 8x. The rate of inflation might have doubled money in 8 years back then. 2x is not 8x.
no...I would've profited a lot more if I filed bankruptcy....I took what profits I had and paid my employees without taking a nickel for myself. All of them are still my friends..one actually gave me a job later when I was moving to Hawaii...karma
you do that all the time so I guess I'll take it as the voice of experience....this is America...we can criticize our elected officials anytime we want....you've made it your agenda to take constant pot shots at Obama and Clinton....but hey....I probably shouldn't criticize the great orange snake oil salesman....he just lowered your taxes!
wrong.....it took every last nickel to settle accounts that winter and I did...I'm sure that doesn't help your cause..I don't like Trump...doesn't mean I don't like wealthy people
I didn't miss your point. It just had little to do with what I wrote. 4,000 millionaires when Carter left office, 64,000 when Reagan left office, 11M today. The real point is that gifted $14M as Trump was, he turned it into $billions. Out of those 11M millionaires today, about 1:500 do likewise.
you wrote 11 millionaires existed....that's obviously a typo but it is what you wrote...and inflation is a factor as well as real estate values...one of Trump's Manhattan apartments has increased in value way more than the money in the bank has.....when you have 14 mill and NYC property given to you in the 60s....it's pretty hard to not snowball wealth unless you are an idiot...Trump is not an idiot...he's an asshole...might even go as far to say that Trump's real estate practices have caused working folks to be unable to buy a house in their home city or even rent. But he made profits!
Buying the property in the first place is something you and I didn't do. Much of his real estate is financed with debt, far more than $14M worth. Again, something you or I couldn't figure out how to do. He's got 500 businesses, many not real estate. Some bust, some not. Again, something you or I didn't accomplish. Again, out of the 11M millionaires in the US, only 1800 (in the world) are billionaires. No trivial feat, even given $14M to start.
actually I paid my employees way more than minimum wage and I paid exactly what I owed to the govt...just didn't stiff my crew when we sold it.
