Again, the word "Fame" implies popularity, not skill.

Though the electors certainly take into account all sorts of things. Length of career, awards, stats, etc.

I get it and that is my question. Do you think the HOF committee puts more stock into stats or fame? Obviously numbers are first and foremost but many HOF's don't make all NBA.

The guy is in the HOF. Had a relatively short peak career (5 years, three 20+ PPG in the NBA). Realize that in those days, 20 PPG was not particularly a great feat.

He's in because he was very popular and one of the first flashy players. Dunker, high flying, agile moves, etc.

And you are kinda validating my point. So this guy never made the all NBA but still made the HOF because of popularity, or being a star?

Just doesn't add up to me.

All I ever hear about is "Player X is a ## time all star". All-NBA almost seems like an afterthought to most media and fans.

Hence my large concern for a player like Dame wanting to make the HOF. His numbers will be there, but the damn All star game is a joke, yet plays a significant portion of the committees decision making.

My hope: Dame gets stiffed, and proceeds to get a ton of rest so he can take the rest of the league over his red checkered apron for the rest of the season.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Yeah, I've always endorsed this viewpoint of the All-Star game. The All-Star game isn't for the "best" players by any technical definition, it's for the players the fans most want to see. It's an exhibition, so I'm fine with fans picking the players they most want to watch play. It's just for fun.

The All-NBA teams are supposed to be for the best.

I want him to be. He's better when he's pissed.

Plus: when the team is shit, your individual stats should mean less. If it's him vs., say, Gordon Hayward, Hayward should get it.

Before all star last year, he averaged 24 and 7. After, 26 and 6 on slightly better percentages. He got hot from 3 a bit.

Really not too much deviation. I think he also came out from the brak on fire, and cooled off substatially to finish the season.
