I've read that Dennis Rodman had almost nothing to do with his teammates other than clock in and play his game...he didn't make friends with Jordan or Pippen or anybody on that team. That team won championships without playing paintball together ...it sort of seems we need a guy with an edge
Why wouldn't SAC give him a max contract? are there any other free agents waiting at their door sign over there? what the hell are they going to do with their money? they are a joke. Why wouldn't we want to pay him that money?? that's cheaper than Meyers+Turner+Crabbe contracts and they are all 2nd tier (or below) bench players.
Leave what money? why do people think that this would be his only contract? He will get another after this next one is over and the money will all equal out for the most part in the long run. He isnt leaving money on the table people. Maybe $10-$30 mill over his career? That's nothing. I watched that Show. Rodman said that they didn't even smile at each other. they never once had any type of conversation that stemmed beyond hello and goodbye off the court. Based on his days with the bad boys. Jordan almost blocked the trade, but Phil said if you guys want to keep winning, Rodman is what we need. And it worked.
Part if that was indeed due to his bad boys days, that team was extremely tight and rodman being that young and basically not having a family growing up, THAT was his first family. He took the end of the bad boys team pretty hard.
For some reason this reminded me of something Charles Barkley said a long time ago, about being a parent. He said he's not his children's friend. He's their parent. A friend can't really get on your case and tell you what to do, and moreover, make you do it. It's like how it's difficult when two coworkers are good friends, then one becomes the other's boss. Maybe there is such a thing as teammates being too chummy. Maybe too much paintball makes it harder for team leaders and teammates to hold each other accountable?
Exactly. The dude doesn't take shit from anybody, and stands up for himself and stands up against the media's bullshit. He's also probably more charitable than anyone on are team when it comes to giving back to the community. The dude donated ONE MILLION DOLLARS of his own money and didn't want the media to find out about it. Some guys do charitable things for the positive press it gets them, but Cousins doesn't. Cousins belongs in Portland. He'd love playing with Dame and CJ, and he'd make us a top 4 team in the west. I think Portland fans would grow to love the dude. For all this talk about Meyers being a 7'1 SG, Plumlee not being strong enough or big enough inside, and Aminu and Davis not being able to shoot, they'd love Cousins. He brings the attitude we need, the skillsets all of ours bigs HAVE, as well as the skillsets all of our bigs LACK.
Nobody liked Kobe. I seem to recall few teammates liked Jordan. Good evidence to support your theory!
Seriously? Why would we even hesitate to pay him? We're paying Crabbe and Turner a combined $35M a year. Why wouldn't we pay the best center in the league $35M a year?
I think we need to cool it with this "best center in the league" talk. He's never shot above 50% from the field over the course of a season. His career FG% is 10% LESS than Plumee's. His career DRtg is only 2 points better than Plume's, and his career ORtg is 10 points worse. Now, I'm not saying Plumlee is better than Cousins - all I'm saying is that it's far fetched (some might say delusional) to call DMC the best C in the league.
Exactly, i heard he donated to a foundation based in Detroit even though he's not from Detroit and didn't even go to school there. I think Boogie will really feed off from the crowd at the Rose Garden, flashes of Sheed going bananas after dunks while the crowd is going wild - that's what we need. No more Meyers hovering around the three point line, enough of this shit.
Cousins isn't the best center in the league, Anthony Davis is. Cousins is in the argument after Davis, along with Karl-Anthony Towns. Cousins' offensive rating is murdered by the team he's on--not only is it an untalented supporting cast, it's also a badly-designed roster and poorly coached. The team has no ability to put Cousins in a position to succeed. The fact that he's even moderately efficient despite being swarmed on every possession is testament to his ability. On a team with shooters, he'd be one of the best players in basketball, in my opinion. Not only would shooters give him some space to work, he's also a good passer (he has a better Assist Rate than Plumlee who's main offensive virtue is his passing ability), so he'd help his teammates as well. I don't have any qualms about Cousins' basketball ability. Just his willingness to dedicate himself to the team and his willingness to re-sign long term.
Look at who he's played next to though. Lillard and McCollum would maximize Cousins skillset. It's a perfect pairing, as he gives us what we need and our team will make him better. A lot of the advanced stats are skewed because of the teams Cousins has had around him. I just say he's the best C because it's a pretty weak position. Jordan isn't. Whiteside is close. But Cousins is a better overall talent than both of those. It just hasn't been effective in Sacremento, and I think he'd be extremely effective here. But there are question marks, which is why I wouldn't trade CJ for him.
Davis is a PF. I forgot about Towns but he has about equal stats to Cousins, with less scoring and rebounding.
I don't really find trying to separate big men players as centers and power forwards terribly useful these days. Tim Duncan was called a "power forward" but ended up playing as many or more minutes at center. Positions have become a lot more fluid and even within a game, match-ups at any given time will dictate who defends whom. If Olajuwon played today, there's a decent chance a team would slot him in at power forward, depending on personnel and philosophy. In terms of "center-capable" players, Davis is significantly better.
Davis is skinny, and more of an athletic, perimeter, face-up threat than a low-post bruiser. He's best as a help-side shot blocker than a guy you stick in the paint to deter shots (even though he can do that well too.) He also starts next to Asik. So to me, he's a PF.
Sure, he starts next to Asik who can't do anything but stand in the middle. But if he were on the Warriors, or Blazers or various other teams, he'd probably be a better fit as a center. It's not a big deal to me to label him a power forward, but I consider him both.
It comes down to what does Sac want for him. I dont want to give up Dame, CJ, or Harkless, and would prefer not to give up Plumlee. Aminu/Leonard/Vonleh/Laymen/Ezeli(salary dump)/PTLD 2018 1st for DMC CJ/CLE 2018 1st/Davis(if we must) for Paul George We look like this... Dame/Napier Crabbe/Turner George/Harkless DMC/Davis Plumlee/MLE Damn... That just gutted us, but that starting lineup would compete with GSW for the best I think.
