Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" Right now, it looks like it's working for the NFL, and the lack of black coaches in the NBA makes me wonder. Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?"And if it doesn't, should it?
Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" I don't think that the NBA has a "Rooney Rule" in place, but should they? I don't really know. But then again there are/were a decent amount of African-American coaches in the NBA, whereas the NFL really didn't have many (if I recall correctly). There are currently ten African-American coaches in the NBA:Mike Woodson (Atlanta)Sam Mitchell (Toronto)Doc Rivers (Boston)Maurice Cheeks (Philadelphia)Isiah Thomas (New York)Mike Brown (Cleveland)Eddie Jordan (Washington)Bernie Bickerstaff (Charlotte)Byron Scott (New Orleans/Oklahoma City)Nate McMillan (Portland)So no, I don't think there needs to be such a rule implemented in the NBA since there are a number of African-American coaches, and there really doesn't seem to be any apparent "discrimination" in the interviewing process.
Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" The Rooney Rule is useless anyway. Most organizations have a pretty good idea of whom they want to have coach. If they have to interview a black coach, that doesn't mean anything to them.
Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" The NBA doesn't have a Rooney Law. The NBA had a coach 32 years ago in the NBA finals...and it's taken the NFL until now to do it...which says a lot about the NBA. I think their are plenty of black coaches in basketball...a lot of these coaches played in the NBA when it was more white...now in the next few decades in my opinion a majority of coaches in the NBA will be black. No Rooney rule is needed in the NBA because black coaches are pretty abundant.
Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" Every team in the NBA has had a black coach at one point in their history, and with 1/3 of the leagues head coaches black there is no way there is a rooney rule.

Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" I don't agree with the rooney rule because it should't matter what skin color your interviewing

Never thought we needed one or ever did really.

Re: Does the NBA have a "Rooney Rule?" I don't even know what the "Rooney Rule" is but I think that anything that has to do with race at this point in time is ridiculous and pointless. There is no racism in the NBA.
