I have never seen Stotts this pissed

If we are talking best selling sports books (all time) "Finding The Winning Edge" by Bill Walsh and Brian Billick has got to be top 10 if not top 5. That is literally the best written memoir/coaches manual in organized football. That man was a friggin genius.

I wish more people new about Terry Pluto's book "Loose Balls." Which is a comprehensive history of the ABA. That organization was haphazardly run by a bunch of maniacs and played by such. The story of Marvin Barnes is worth the price alone. I hope they turn it into a movie one day and not like that make-weight comedy, Semi Pro.

I think George Karl is going the way of Jim Bouton. He wrote a tell all book, about baseball's infamoua road life while he was pitching for the Yankees called "Ball Four." The book sold well but many of his teammates never forgave him, including Mickey Mantle, whose image/facade was basically destroyed. The press basically hailed Ball Four as groundbreaking but now it's seen as overrated bawdy macho farce. Jim Bouton regretted writing Ball Four later in life. I think Karl will regret writing his book as well.

 

There was a good 30 For 30 on Marvin Barnes and the Spirits of St. Louis. If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching.

 

Yeah. I saw it. Thought it was pretty good. Hard to believe Bob Costas got his start with that franchise. But as they say, "you got to start somewhere."

 

Plimpton was an American original, of a kind of class and quality in writing and journalism that you just don't find any more. The Paris Review was probably at its best when he was editor.

 

I've read it...good read...I liked a book I didn't see on the list about Rod Laver I read long ago...might be out of print now. I love the 920 921 section of the library...read a lot of biographies and autobiographies. One of my favorites was definitely Cinderella Man by Jeremey Schaap....later made into a movie by Russell Crowe....frickin' amazing true story...win the championship and pay the govt back every penny his family got from Welfare the next day...awesome sports story

 

Hunter Thompson is another favorite of mine....I miss his columns

 

That's a fair question. But we need to remember that if Dame was asked to sell out for 36 minutes on defense, fight through/around pick after pick with Patrick Beverly-like intensity, we can't complain when he's not able to put up anywhere near 27 ppg. And when his offensive numbers drop & he's not able to take over games when we're desperate for buckets, will we say he's not clutch anymore? Or even worse, that he's not living up to his contract? Maybe he finds a balance between offense & defense like Chris Paul has, but with the current roster he has to shoulder A LOT of the burden to create not only his offense, but for others as well. There's only so much gas in the tank.

 

Dame has made improvements in his game this season...teardrop is better, gets to the line, assists up, turnovers down. Far outweighs the fact he's not Bruce Bowen on defense

 

I don't even need Bruce Bowen but to see how much effort Patty Mills put in the other night and how much he made shots difficult for Dame, that doesn't seem too much to expect.

 

I think he needs to be playing next to a Bruce Bowen but you're right...I'd love to get Patty Mills back
