Passing ability can't be measured accurately by assists when Lillard plays in an offense that runs off ball movement between 5 players, whole someone like Westbrook has to create his teammates every look in OKC. So no, it's not quite quantifiable. He's a top scorer in the league. If anything, he'd be a 30ppg if everything ran through him like it did Westbrook or Harden. How would it be inflated when we were around 10th, much closer to average than 30th? The scheme also magnifies his defensive weaknesses, did you not read my thread about the change in the defensive scheme that helps the defense as a whole and will also help Lillard by minimizing his weaknesses? All my basis is is "Leave Damian Alone"?? Haha Ok.
Advanced stats. Sir Charles says some crazy things. But I have to agree with him on his take of advanced stats. ignore/unsee button so I don't have to read through it on the main page. I wonder if Trump can make this happen for me. Make S2 great again.
Nothing I hate more than a media tag of "superstar" on a player. Carmelo's been a "superstar" since he came in the league and he still hasn't done jack to make his team better.
Winning cures all this babble in the end. Damian Lillard is a perfect franchise leader...bitch, bitch, bitch....he's the brightest spot on the team this season. Enjoy what he brings night in and night out.
Lillard is probably a top-ten point guard. I don't think I've seen anyone say he's specifically not a top-ten point guard. Some people were pointing out that there are ten other point guards that have an argument, even if that argument is weak in some cases. Lillard is a star, but his relative rank among point guards has a lot to do with the fact that this is a golden age of point guards. Lillard is probably not top-five and that's only partially a knock on him (if he were an average defender and he was a bit more selective in his shots, he probably would be). In a lot of eras, he would be top-five--he just happens to live through an era in which there are a ton of good and great point guards. This is worth keeping in mind when/if he doesn't make the All-Star team or an All-NBA team. In many years of NBA history, he would. He's not being "snubbed," he just has stiff competition.
He's better than Klay but Klay plays on a better team. There's more that goes into all-star selections than just talent, so I don't use the actual all-star game as a guage for players. Instead, it's more of a level of play.
19/6.5 The stat line of Damian Lillard last time Portland finished the season under .500. Just sayin...
Let's see: Westbrook (better numbers AND better record) Steph (duh) Harden (duh) Klay Thompson (just cuz it's the Warriors) Chris Paul (who will probably be injured and let someone else in) Probably not Mike Conley or George Hill, although both those teams have better records than us Lillard's got a chance. Actually, he's probably better off in the West. The top 4 teams in the East have PGs as star players: Kyrie, Lowry, Thomas and Walker. AND Washington's better than us, and Wall's stats are incredible (WITH good defense).
And? Are you saying that Lillards putting up these stats because the team has had a tough schedule and is therefore below .500?
Hence the term fringe all-star its not a knock, all-star game is a fucking joke of a popularity contest anyways.
George Hill has played 13 games this season. Talk about small sample size. Given his career, he's nowhere near as good as Dame - this season or ever. No, he's not a better PG for this team.
How conveniently you forget that we were a fucking playoff team last year where Lillard had nearly similar stats. Did K-Love ever lead Minny to the playoffs? If anything, his stats are lower than they should be because we've played a tough schedule.
I gave you a like, but its not a sad thing. Its a great thing. What happened last year? I'd be willing to make a small type of wager that Dame comes back with a vengeance, and by the years end, he has top 4 PG stats. Dame overworks himself. Has anyone else noticed almost anytime he is out ( this includes the offseason), he comes back and dominates. When Dame is 95% healthy or better, I think he is a top4. Problem is he tries to carry too much weight and he gets weighed down. It was showing before he got injured. He came out and had INSANE numbers. And it is ONLY those insane numbers that are keeping him even in some sort of All Star talk. He needs to learn how to read his own body better and know when it is good to take a night off here and there, like ALL the superstars do. If he does this and can maintain a 95% health instead of about an 80% or less that it seems he plays on alot, He is a top 4 and we probably are at .500 right now. The more I think about it, the more I think a decent amount of our problem is Dame. It is mostly all fairly easily correctable though.
The stupidity is baffling when people are legitimately thinking George Hill is better than Dame. We all want to win arguments and pissing contests on this forum, but seriously think about what you're saying first.
