I'm a musicology fanatic....everything from Library of Congress field recordings of African tribal stuff to Opera...it's been the passion of my life. I achieved the highest rating ever given in my State music competition...an A++ ..I performed a Baroque piece by Chopin without sheet music...only solo memorized in the competition..my 15 secs of fame...played in orchestra and in the jazz band in high school

 

Pretty impressive, plus you're hijacking HCP's thread, so all the better.

I'm a big music fan, but my tastes aren't quite as eclectic as yours. The closest I get to African tribal music is the polyrhythms that Vampire Weekend and Paul Simon stole.

 

Check out old King Sunny Ade Juju Music and Fela Kunti's old stuff.....I like the Oud playing of Hamid Zamir from Morocco and a whole lot more..it's the roots of counterpoint and polyrhythm ...call and response...the stuff you hear in Paul Simon's stuff.

 

What's everyone have against living in a basement? I think it's awesome!!!!!

Jumping into this side-chain... if you enjoy african guitar Ali Farka Toure is pretty great. "The Source" is a solid album.

 

All the better, for if there is one universal take away I've gotten from all the past meet and greet threads, it's that when people from this forum actually make the effort to meet in person, they realize what a great bunch of guys we are that all share a common passion for our team.

Whatever the hell happened last night, wasn't cool. Never met HCP, don't care to. Been here for 2 years, never really talked to dude. I kind of find it ridiculous though that people on here create an excuse for him to just talk shit on people or "new people". It's not funny nor does it even sound like he is trying to make it an act. It appears as pretty real insults. Some of you have met him thats cool, the thing is people like me haven't and don't know his personality so why should we be expected to just know it's some joke? I mean maybe he should say some outlandish shit so that people actually know there is no way in hell this dude is serious. I guess I can say hey guys you don't know me in person but my insults last night at HCP were all jokes, not real it's just some character I play. It's ridiculous and it's one big excuse for him to be an asshole. Double standards I guess...

 

While I was rather blunt, I hope it will encourage others to not take anything that happens here too seriously. Regardless who you are, or how long you've been here, it really is just a fan site about a team that plays a game for our entertainment. We're all passionate about our team, but hopefully we all also have more important things going on in our lives that help keep things that happen here in proper perspective.
