That's some lovely "we believe in our players" smokescreen.

IS this going to be the start of the dominos and trades are going to start happening left and right?

I love Millsap and think he'd fit seamlessly with this team at PF next to Plums. He plays the passing lanes and can protect the rim on D. And his offensive skills are absolutely ideal with Dame/CJ/Plums. And even at age 31/32-- I think he can go for another 3 years easily.

That said, I don't want him for the exact same reason why I don't want Noel-- contract.

He will be a free agent this summer and due for a big raise this summer. Even if we manage to dump one or two of AC/ET/ML, we'll kill our flexibility even more , and we still will have a tough time extending both Millsap and Plums. This fear of the guy leaving is somewhat mitigated with Noel as he'll be a RFA, but still, hard to fathom extending both he and Plums for over 80 mil each in the same summer.

Yep, Millsap only makes sense if we think we can compete THIS season. We seemingly can't so giving up anything serious for him would be a bad move, he won't stay beyond May anyway.

You give him the MAX for 4 years and he certainly stays. That is not an appealing option either though.

If we trade our pick for Millsap, Olshey should be fired on the spot.

I'd gladly trade Ed OR Meyers OR Aminu for Millsap. But not in combination. So basically, there's no reason for us to even submit an offer IMO.

I'd trade clevelands pick for him, even if there's a possibility he'll leave after the season. I would even offer him the max, or something close to it. Yes it's overpaying, but no one wants to come to Portland, until they actually come to Portland. Maybe he'll like playing with Dame and CJ. We'll have to overpay to keep him, but I say why not. Millsap is good enough to be worth the risk.

I have to admit, I'd be very interested in our new roster. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Rondo. I haven't watched him since he left BOS, so I'm willing to believe that he's not the player he once was. But part of me holds out hope that, with the right roster, he could regain his former standing as one of the league's best PGs. He probably never will, but...

You think anyone would dispute that?

I wouldn't even want Rondo to return to prior form. I'd want him as CJ's backup.

    CJ/Butler/Aminu/Plumlee/Rolo
    Rondo/Crabbe/Harkless/Davis/Leonard

    That's a contender. This year.

No chance either side proposes that, and I don't think Chicago would be interested if Portland did, but I thought the idea seemed intriguing.

Sorry, but the way you built our line-up, I have to say "yuck"! Aminu/Plumlee/Rolo? Barf! The only way I want to keep Aminu on the roster is as a bench player. If you want Rondo as the back-up, then I could see maybe doing CJ/Butler/Harkless/Plumlee/Rolo. I do like the idea of Plumlee as our PF, but not sure Rolo is the best C to pair him with. But, assuming Rondo can be 80% of the player he was in BOS, I'd rather go:

    Rondo/CJ/Butler/Plumlee/Rolo

Still have the Plumlee/Rolo issue, but we have great defense with Rondo/Butler/Rolo, great offense with CJ/Butler, great passing with Rondo/Plumlee.

Regardless of how you mix/match the players I don't agree that they're a contender. At best they're a dark horse. But yeah, it's all just theoretical musings, as there's no way this would ever go down.

You know CHI much better than I do, but I think you can take the "might" out of that. As I said in another thread, I followed the CHI/Butler saga last season, but not much at all this season. But based on what I read last year, and what little I've read this year, they'd love to get rid of both Butler (for the right price) and Rondo.

The Bulls love their defense. Their current coach doesn't have an offensive scheme that favors a PG like Dame.

I do think the proposed trade would get their attention.

The Bulls' rarely make midseason trades.

The Bulls History of Making Trades is Pathetic, and that's a Problem

Since Gar Forman and John Paxson took over front office duties from Jerry Krause in 2003, the management duo has repeatedly failed to use the trade market to improve the roster.

Not sure about your issue with a Plumlee/Rolo pairing. Rolo has a solid mid-range jumper, and Plumlee could continue his role as the high-post distributing center cutting to the hoop for lobs. I think they complement each other quite well.

I wouldn't quibble over Aminu/Harkless, except to say that Aminu is the superior defender, so I'd generally prefer to start games with him on the floor. Either way would work for me though.

In about 9 days, the same deal proposed above could be done with Crabbe instead of Turner, and I'd probably prefer that, simply because I think Turner can do more things overall than AC can.
