    Hello darkness, my old friend
In my opinion, if Chandler helps the defense, it'll mostly be with his defensive IQ and calling out assignments and getting guys to the right spots. Those sorts of things. He can still play at a moderate level, but he could potentially be like a defensive coach on the floor. It won't completely change the complexion of the defense--talent still matters most--but it might steady them a bit when they're lost to the point of giving up 40+ point quarters. Turn those into 30 point quarters and they might win some more games.

EXACTLY why I would much rather see us try to trade up in the draft and nail Josh Jackson. We now have two first rounders.
The more I think about it the more I think this is an idiotic chase and I REALLY hope its just a rumor intended to toss off the sniffers from the real chase we are involved in.

So what would it take to get Noel (if that ship hasn't sailed) and the pick that nails us Josh Jackson?
    CJ/Aminu/Leonard?
    Both our 1st plus CJ?

I think even with 2 first rounders it would probably have to include CJ, which is fine with me, because like the link says, the bigger issue is perimeter D.
A lineup of the following would be extremely balanced/exciting and contending within 2 years(need time to gel and grow):

    Dame/Napier
Crabbe/Jackson (this may swap as I think He will be that good within his first year. He is much more a versatile players than Crabbe and Crabbes offense will be more valuable in the second unit)
    Harkless/Turner
    Noel/Vonleh
    Plums/Davis

With Noel wont get the paycheck CJ got in his next contract and Jackson would be on a Rookie contract, so it would solve our money issues to be able to retain Plums if we want. If not, then I could see someone like Chandler for Davis or Plums and a second rounder or something.
Chandler would be a great veteran leader who could help the young's develop and would help us in the immediate to try to make a run in the next two years.

CJ has just increased his trade value BIG time in my opinion and it didn't hurt at ALL when KD came out and said he is one of the NBA's greatest right now. I do believe he has equal value to Butler and there wont be a better time to move him...unfortunately. He wont be able to raise his stock any more playing with Dame. He needs to be the chief in order to do so. I could see another team watching Houston and thinking they can do something like that with CJ's offensive skills.

Now is the time. His stock is REALLY high and it is pretty obvious the perimeter defense just isn't gonna get us there.

In my proposal, we are getting a potential great two way player in Jackson and a Defensive specialist in the paint in Noel. This will be plenty to hide Dame alone and Dame would then thrive like never before.

I am willing to let the season play out to try to convince me otherwise, especially since my proposal wouldn't be able to go down until the draft anyhow, but we would need to see significant defensive improvement in both Dam and CJ for me to change my mind again and I just don't see that happening in such a short time.

A lot of people on this forum have claimed Lillard is such a great leader that he could lead Boogie.
If that's the case, why does Portland need a Veteran presence such as Chandler?

Lillard isn't tall enough to slap some sense into Meyers.

It's not just about locker room leadership, you also need guys with in game leadership that have been through and seen everything. Lillard is still relatively green in that area. That's where think we miss Kaman and Henderson, and where someone like Chandler could potentially help.

That being said, I don't want Chandler, or any other 34 year old. We're not a piece away.

Meh.... If we got him I'd bring him off the bench. Our bench needs a center. Ed's just not getting the job done this year :(

I don't see him as being big enough of an upgrade over Plumlee to start, nor do I see him being a better fit for our starting lineup.

Maybe a few years ago but not now. If we really are going to make a trade there have got to be other options out there.

Oh, yay - Tyson Chandler! Another long-in-the-tooth player who'll improve our W/L record but won't make us good enough to advance in the POs. We should probably trade a whole bunch of draft picks for him.

I was for this until I realized his deal runs until 2019 which is a complete no go. Even now he does not offer that much and shows signs of decline, by 2018 he could be useless and still getting paid $12M.

Is Olshey at a point where he's looking to the future, or looking to save his job. Thats the real question I think we should be asking.

Maybe Chandler needs a fresh start and role change. We desperately need a defender especially in the 4thQ . Olshey has to sell him a role as veteran leadership, our cool uniforms and the café experience of downtown

Not an above average defender still makes him light years better than any of our bigs.

Looking to the future for this team . His job is not in jeopardy and he is not on the hot seat. Several reports have come out that it was PA who wanted to keep th4 core together. Cant fault the GM for that!
If anything, PA got to close and personal with last years team. He fell in love with the overachievers and told NO to build around it. Not break it up. SO he had to retina the guys.
I am sure PA is have some second thoughts about a couple players, but again, not to the fault of the GM. For all we know, NO might have been telling PA this is a bad move behind closed doors. He may have RELUCTANTLY matched Crabbe and was told to go spend the 75 mill we had on SOMEONE. All the bigs were gone or wanted nothing to do with us, so he went after a third ball handler who can be a perimeter defender. Pretty much what he should have done. And itf it was PA saying spend it, again...Not NO's fault.

    Who wrote that crap?

Of course Portland needs a rim protector, but Tyson Chandler isn't one.

    My response:

Tyson Chandler rim protector??? This is 2017, not 2011. He averages 0.4 BLK/G.

If that's your definition of rim protector, no need to make a trade. Just move C.J. McCollum to center. He averages 0.6 BLK/G.

Seriously, we already have EIGHT players averaging at least 0.4 BLK/G. Lillard and Crabbe are the only two players in our rotation that average fewer BLKs than Tyson Chandler.

If it's rim protection we seek, time to look elsewhere. My theory is this is just a Neil Olshey smokescreen designed to let Donnie Nelson and Bryan Colangelo know that if their trade demands aren't reasonable, he has other options that are available on the cheap.

Rim protection that poor with that much of a contract left on an ageing, unproductive center makes no sense.
