<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>In February 2007, it was announced that Amaechi would come out of the closet as a gay man on the February 13 edition of ESPN's Outside the Lines program. He is also scheduled to release a forthcoming book, Man in the Middle, which discusses his career and life as a closeted professional athlete.[1][2] Amaechi will be the first current or former NBA player to publicly acknowledge being gay.</div>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Amaechi

Wow can't believe he is the first one but maybe other will start to open up (if there are any) since someone led the way. I heard Richard Jefferson was gay....?

I really don't care about this too much. Actually, I really wouldn't care if any NBA player "came out". I've gotten past the point in my life where homosexuality offends or disturbs me. If these guys are gay, so be it.

This really isnt that big of a deal to be honest. I guarantee you that alot of people dont even know who this guy is. Until I googled him, I forgot who he was, and then I remembered seeing him a while back on some basketball cards or something. If a big star was to come out of the closet, I think it would be a very big deal, and it may happen sometime in the future, but you never will really know, because even if a NBA star was gay, I guarantee you that he wouldnt come out of the closet. It would ruin his reputation unfortunatley....

I don't have a problem with gay people. I sometimes make gay jokes with my friends and stuff, but I really don't have an issue with gay people. It isn't their fault that they are gay, so it doesn't make me think any less of them. I'm glad that someone finally came out of the closet here with this. I know for a fact that John Amaechi isn't the only guy gay who has played in the NBA, so I'd like to see more honesty about this from other players.

Nobody in the NBA really liked Amaechi, Jerry Sloan called him an anti-American ***hole. I remember watching him in Orlando and he was terrible and how he only worked hard his contract year....I remember him stealing a contract....he was so soft as a player.

The only things I've known about Amaechi are that he played basketball for several different franchises, and he is the only player to ever suit up for all 82 games, and not get a minute on the court. I read it on a basketball card.I'm in the same boat as CB4. I don't mind gays, I sometimes make jokes, but they are still humans.

I have like two of his bball cards, and I read about him in an ESPN Mag article once..but as for him being gay, I am not in to the whole thing, its against everything I honestly believe in and I think its disgusting and wrong. but thats me, idc what you all think. I think its wrong and I hope all of the other players just keep it to themselves.

Amaechi was an okay player, but nothing special. I don't get fascinated by these stories. What will be interesting is if an active player comes out. That's never happened. What kind of treatment would that guy get from a teammate or fans or the media? That would be a story.

I would like to see, if there are any gay players in the NBA right now and see if they will be open about this. Some Magic players were interviewed today that played him Amaechi and they have nothing wrong about him being gay except him being a great teammate. I haven't heard or seen this guy play before. Is he any good? And how many years have he been in the league.
