I posted this in another thread and it got lost in the shuffle: Curry, Klay, Draymond, Durant, Harden, CP3, Westbrook, Kawhi, M Gasol, Davis, and Cousins are locks. That leaves one more spot. Dame, CJ, Aldridge, Eric Gordon, or somebody from Utah. Thoughts?
I'm not sure Klay would be a lock. But at the same time, I don't care if Damian makes it anymore. I have no reason to care about the ASG
I don't want our guys distracted by a game where nobody plays defense......fuck the allstar game...we were the allstar game not so long ago!
You can certainly make the All-Star team with a poor record, if you're dominant enough to obviously belong. Anthony Davis qualifies (regardless of position), Cousins also qualifies especially (as others have mentioned) relative to his position. Lillard and McCollum haven't clearly outperformed other top guards, so tie-breakers like record may very well play a factor. I think Lillard has a decent chance--he and McCollum are about equally good players at this point, but Lillard has better name recognition and a longer history.
I believe it was Mark Twain who said, "I would never want Dame or CJ on a team that would have LaMarcus Aldridge as a member."
We're well below .500 and there are a shit load of qualified guards on teams with better records. Unfortunately Damian and CJ haven't distinguished themselves enough from the likes of Klay, Curry, Westbrook, Harden, CP3, etc.
