Would the incoming player have a better situation with the contract status (lower pay, longer contract, etc)? It may make sense to punt for the rest of the year & trade the duplicated talent in the summer.
One more question for you. Did your sources give any indication of how 'toxic' or 'tradeable' the Crabbe, Turner, and Meyer contracts are? Is there any team out there interested in at least one of the 3?
We're getting Aldridge back??? And while we're in forgiven and forget mode, can we also re-hire Kim Hughes so we have an actual big man coach? I have no idea how effective Hughes was, but Meyers has regressed significantly since he left and Noah Vonleh has made ZERO progress without a big man coach. BNM
Man, dropping the smallest scrap of a trade rumor in here is like tossing a gerbil in the middle of a pack of jackals.
There used to be more scuttlebutt coming from 1 Center Court but Neil is very tight lipped about this so little comes out that then disseminates to other places. Most of what I get anymore comes from outside and from other teams or acquaintances with connections to agents. The Trade Deadline is an exciting time that can bring new hope but from the couple of things that were passed on, at least initially, this would be a lateral move versus one we were all excited for. Hopefully that changes.
Seems to me Chief is rebounding better than Lamarus is ..he'll rebound even better if we get some better defense from the wings and guards
Just to be clear, TBpup, I appreciate your trade scuttlebutt as much as everyone else. I think that everyone has had Jan. 15th circled on their calendars for a long time and assumed that something would happen right away. As you said, this discussion that you heard about could just be the precursor to another move. There are so many things that go into making a trade happen in the NBA. The fact that the Blazers are now in a position to actually do something, doesn't mean that other teams are eager to pull the trigger so far in advance of the deadline. They may be looking for sweeter deals. Also, it's possible that Olshey isn't looking to make a major move during the season. Almost any major move would result in the team having to adjust its style of play to accommodate a new starter and not having any significant practice time to do it. He may want to let this year play out and make his adjustments in the off-season.
As poorly as they have played this year; I don' think he would need to be too worried about accommodating a new player.
