Prime Shaq (LA 99-00/00-01). He was a 30PPG type scorer, and absolutely dominant. So dominant that many refer to him as the MDE. He was alos a great rebounder, and at that time was motivated defensively and to earn a ring. He rolled through everyone in his path, helped carry the Lakers to 3 rings, and played at top 10 of all time level. Despite him being over the hill now, he is still getting at times triple teams because of what he did in that time period. Duncan in his prime wasn't too far off, but he just wasn't as dominant as Shaq. That sort of goes to Duncan's style of being very fundemental and racking up stats and such without any posterizing dunks or flashy moves, but he just never drew as much attention as Shaq and couldn't dominate a game like Shaq could.

I gotta go with Shaq. As amazing and consistent as Duncan has been over his career, there was no answer for Shaq in his prime. He was so massive, so deadly.

I would take shaq. He was a monster and no one could stop him. He was getting like 3 people on him and he would muscle them all out and get a dunk or be fouled to go to the line. But what disappoints me is that he says when he practices he gets almost 100% of his free throws in, but when it comes to the game he sucks at the line. But still he was dominating on all sectors. He was a load to handle for teams as well and the duo of Shaq and Kobe was just too hard for teams to deal with. Both of them 20+ scorers. He also intimidated people to try and score on him as well.

This is an obvious choice for me. IMO, Shaq is the best center of all time and Duncan is the best power forward of all time, but Shaq was just too damn dominant. Duncan wasn't and isn't the guy to overpower you like Shaq was. He was simply unstoppable. When he won the 3 rings in a row, it was really a great thing to see. I really cant say much else. Both are great players, but Shaq was just too dominant. Thats all I can really say....

A lot of people are picking Shaq (of course!) but Tim Duncan was a more versitile and complete player.I'd still pick Shaq though. Unless I had insomnia, then I'd take Duncan.

I'm a Tim Duncan fan but you just can't argue against Shaq. Shaq was completely dominant in his prime with his huge body frame and also his ability to just back people down and get the easy buckets. I would have to say Shaq is the most dominating center of all time. Now Tim Duncan in his prime was very good too and not too far off from Shaq but he typically plays a PF spot and I would have to say he is probabaly the best PF. But this one is easy for me Shaq w/o a doubt.

Everyone is saying Shaq but if Tim Duncan had Kobe Bryant or D. Wade that would be scary. Duncan defends and rebounds better than Shaq and was almost the force Shaq was. Shaq was only better on offense.

I mean those two were really dominant playing with each other over their careers.

Robinson was no where close to what was. 1999 was the only time when Robinson was still a factor with Duncan and they dominated.

Shaq was incredible...it's really not a tough choice for me. Averaging 26-30 points, 11-14 rebounds and 2 or 3 blocks. No player in the league could stop him from scoring and he was a scary man to go up against on the other side too. And scoring at 60% some years...

I would definitely take Shaq. He was just more of a dominant force. I would take Shaq in his prime over any other player EVER. He just couldnt be stopped....He was way too big and strong and he could just dunk over people all day. No need to go in to details...

Can you say 30 PPG and 14 REB? What a monster! Shaq was absoluf*ckinglutely dominant with the Lakers. If you threw that ball within the vicinity of the hoop, he eithier got it over everyone or dunked on you. Not to mention 3 rings, a dynasty, and helping Miami to one. Beating the Nets of 2001 and Philli of 02 was not easy. We were talking Prime Iverson, and a well rouned Sixer team, to go one loss in that years playoffs is mind boggling. Shaq is a HOF and I think has the easy edge over Duncan.

Yeah, but Shaq was only dominant for like 3 years, every other time he was just fat, outta shape, lazy and hogging up space on the injured list.

Really? Some rounded up or down93: 29, 13, 2.4, 3 shooting at 60%94: 29, 11.4, 2.7, 2.4, 58%Then he entered the injury-filled stages were he missed a few games but still had his 26-28 points, 10-12 rebounds and 2-3 blocks so he was still dominant and in that stretch of 4 seasons that he missed 27 games per year.99: 29.7, 13.7, 4, 3, 57%00: 28.7, 12.7, 3.7, 3, 58%01: Went down slightly but still 27, 10-11ish and he was still great02: Major numbers went up againOut of his prime after that but helped the Heat win another championship. I'm counting about 5 great seasons there and the ones were he faltered he was still putting up great numbers.

Shaq without a question. Duncan could probably get him out of the paint and hit some bank shots over him but he doesn't have a chance in hell down low against the Diesel. There is nobody that has ever had the gearth and athletic ability that Shaq had. He could dunk on anyone, back anyone down with ease, rebound, muscle people out of the paint with ease, he was simply insane. Although Duncan is a phonomenal player, Shaq easily wins this argument.
