Re: We need a direction, I can't take it anymore

Someone on CelticsBlog said our situation reminded him of how the Bulls rebuilt post-dynasty era. This was my post:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Nice post, welcome to the board, but I disagree, and here's why: The Bulls, post-dynasty era, had a PLAN. That plan was to gather a bunch of young talent and build through the draft, and take it to the next level from there. They have stuck with that plan. They drafted guys like Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng (one of my favorites), Ben Gordon, Chris Duhon, and even Jay Williams (who would have been a very good player had he not gotten into a motorcycle accident). They signed Andres Nocioni. Then what did they do? When the time was right and they had the money, they went out and brought in a defensive powerhouse in Ben Wallace. Their plan is succeeding right now.

The Celtics, on the other hand, haven't established a plan... 4 years later. The original plan, according to Ainge and ownership, was supposedly to build around Pierce with a lot of young talent so they could grow with Paul Pierce. Then, Ainge scratches that plan and goes out to get Ricky Davis, Gary Payton, and Antoine Walker (back) for a season. Then what happened? Back to square one, but the plan has backfired because we have way too many young players on this roster. WAY too many. The only veterans we do have are hurt, as well.

But Ainge never had a plan. He tried to stay "competitive" and be a playoff team while picking up young pieces. Well... mission not accomplished. Now we are back at square one with a complete youth overhaul, an injured and frustrated Paul Pierce, a below average head coach. We have no plan or direction.

In my opinion, this past summer, Danny should have either extended Pierce and gotten some veterans to win with Pierce, or deal Paul Pierce and REALLY go with a youth movement that allowed us to get REAL YOUNG STARS to build around. But no, instead he extends Pierce (and overpays) and makes no moves, leaving us with a complete overhaul of young talent mixed with 2 good veteran players (Pierce and Szczerbiak).

Now what, Danny? Paul would rather you traded the pick and get some good veterans to put around him. Yet, you have a possible #1 pick in a very good draft.

Back at square one, guys - stuck in the middle.</div>

I probably agree with that post. I didn't read it but here's my take, and its similar to the thread title. GET A f*cking DIRECTION. I'm sick of not knowing what next to expect. I'm sick of not knowing what our future is going to be like. Gasol? Pierce? Oden? Durant? What the hell is our team going to look like next year? Five years? Ten years? All of these questions are completely impossible to answer right now, and as a fan of this team it kind of hurts to be honest. Danny really needs to get his sh*t together and figure this out.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (playaofthegame @ Feb 10 2007, 12:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Yeah..this "plan" Danny visioned kind of collapsed and I don't believe he ever had a plan in the first place</div>
EXACTLY. He stripped an Eastern Conference Finals team to the bone (which, I agree, didn't have much of a future) to build through youth... then he put that on hold to go out and get Gary Payton, Antoine Walker, and Ricky Davis to give us one nice season (actually, half a season)... then he scratches that and goes all-young again. Now, we are stuck with a bunch of young "talent." Half the roster is solely potential, only ONE player is actually establishing himself as a GOOD young talent (Al Jefferson). A few good young role players, but bench players on good teams (Gomes, West, Rondo).

Paul Pierce wants to trade the pick and he wants Ainge to go out and get good veterans. Ainge promised him that when he signed the extension. I give all the credit in the world to Paul Pierce for not complaining once.
