He is in Woj's good side so I do not see anything coming close to the criticism KP got. Love Woj, but some of his info is severely slanted towards GM's that give him info or withhold it.

This why I like howPackers do business they slot each player how much they think your worth and if you want more they till have nice day. So that would mean if the Blazers did that to Crabbe. Crabbe would be with the Nets and Turner would be getting 13 million and not 17 million and Myers wouldn't be on the team. You don't have to spend all the money because you have it but you only have to reach floor limit. Neil job also to advise Paul how much each player is worth.

It's not quite an apples to apples comparison. The NFL cap is structured in a very different way and players have considerably less leverage because of unguaranteed contracts in that league, but the point is taken that you don't want to overpay for undertalented guys or bad fits; it makes it tough to dig out of those holes.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
The other thing that complicates the comparison to the NFL is that you can exceed the cap in the NBA to retain your own free agents, whereas you can't do that in the NFL. If it was raw cap space that Olshey was using to sign Crabbe, and Leonard, he might have been less willing. Instead, he was using the area between the cap and the luxury tax that couldn't be used for outside free agents. While that doesn't necessarily make it "use it or lose it" as some here have alleged (unless Allen is willing to go deep into the luxury tax, those contracts could cost the team Plumlee, who's a far better player than Crabbe or Leonard), it does make the decision to simply let them go a little less obvious, especially if you believe they have potential.

I can't compare the NFL with the NBA when it comes to players and contracts....the NFL season is the shortest season in sports and has a small army on the roster.....offensive players only play offense mostly and defensive players the same.....the NBA has really small rosters and a grueling schedule. It's the same in baseball.....a relief pitcher can make Kobe money and play a couple innings a week....

I've hated the plumlee trade since it happened. But now I really hate it.

I wasn't comparing league what I was saying you don't over pay someone because you have alot of money. Every player on this roster is worth so much so you dont offer them a contract over what there worth or you don't match a contract over there worth. If you loose someone than you go out find someone else to fill that spot. The salary cap got a bottom and it got a top. You got to reach the bottom mark but you don't have to reach the top part of the salary cap.

Right or wrong (and I am not saying it was right for the Blazers to do this but...) POR matched because they couldn't just go out and get someone else if they let Crabbe go. The cap rules prevented them from signing anyone for more than the minimum even if they didn't match his huge deal.

No I haven't even looked at his stats recently. Just the fact that our team sucks, and plumlee is most likely going to leave. Wtf was the point? I'd rather have rondae, and cliff still. Or give the center minutes to nards.

So your saying we couldn't find a player out there as equal talent as Crabbe and pay less. To me that hard to believe.

If you use logic like that then the only trades that aren't worthless are trades that directly lead to a championship and teams hardly ever do that because at some point in a trades life that team will start to suck and then whats the point of the original trade. I look at it like we traded the 24th pick in a draft for a decent starting center for 2 years who we have the option to match in the summer. Still sounds like an okay trade to me

We probably could at the time for the 5 MIL to 10 MIL salary area (and most certainly now). But definitely not for the league minimum in PORs eyes when they signed him. That was their only other choice. Crabbe for WAY too much or a guy who would play for peanuts. They choose the former. If they had it to do over again they may go a different direction. They don't get a do-over though.

Even if we kept him, I'd rather have rondae. I didn't like the trade when it happened.

Also, we could put a potato out there at center, and have the same shitty record.

Also, also, I don't agree with your first sentence(s).

RHJ would be really nice to have right now, especially since he isn't going to be a restricted free agent this off season. Hopefully the team can get somebody at least as good as him in a trade for Plumlee at the deadline.

What has Rondae shown though? Guy can't shoot, has problems scoring near the rim, isn't a good defender about the only thing good about him is his contract.

Unless you gave us a one of the elite rim protectors in the league then everyone we toss out at center wouldn't have that great of an impact when our guards let everyone and their mother constantly drive by them with little to no resistance what so ever.

Thanks for pointing out I don't care about grammar or sentence structure when I do a quick post on a message board.

Horrible shooter, but I think he's a better defender than anyone on our team, and he's a great rebounder. Plus he's crazy athletic.

He definitely is crazy athletic, reminds me a lot of MKG. I don't watch a lot of brooklyn games and mostly do it to watch Lopez but I just never thought he was a great defender. Loses his guy pretty easily doesn't fight hard through screens but then again i'm not paying great attention to him on the defensive side so its when he screws up that I mostly notice him.

I think MKG is the best comparison.
