Cassidy and Sundance are going to be "tutored" tomorrow. Back in my college days, a HELL of a long time ago, a friend explained he was telling his dog the dog would be "tutored", as he was afraid the dog would run away if he heard the true word. Or maybe it's just an alternate word? Anyway, we've jokingly said "tutored" ever since. After a slow start Sundance is gaining weight and size. He is still small for his age but past the point where we worried he would not make it. They will soon be too big to pack into a single carrier. The tremors and lack of coordination are stable, not getting worse as we feared they might; they control their bodily functions but stumble when they walk, don't land on their feet and can't run, climb, or jump normally. The vet said it appears to be a form of cerebral palsy. They will be indoor cats all their lives, bummer when I have a big garden to play in but necessary for their safety. At least I don't have to deal with them trying to jump on my kitchen counters. The worst part from my point of view is that, since they are getting anesthesia, they can't eat after 8 PM. They will be screeching for breakfast and by the time they arrive at the clinic in the condition I call Fasting and Furious. That may not be the worst part from THEIR point of view....
If responsible owners of female cats would simply have them all spayed there would be no need for you to inflict this archaic, sadistic and deviant sexual disfigurement upon your already suffering animals. CLOSE CATANAMO!
Clearly Maris never had an intact adult male cat. They spray. That's not normal urination. It is adult male territorial/sexual aggression. They spray a potent, pheromone-laden special urine on everything. Your furniture. Your walls. Your draperies. Your clothes. Your dishes. Your towels. Your friends, who stop being your friends. Anyone who thinks "tutoring" a male cat is barbaric should live for a week or so with a spraying cat. Even though these cats will never go out and won't reproduce, they need to be "tutored" before full puberty, and that is coming soon.
Thank you for being a responsible animal owner crandc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Real Americans should stop watching soap's and turn it to educational tv once or twice a year. Might learn there are other benefits from fixing animals, other than just preventing illegitimate babies.
If they don't I will happily take them. They're still young enough to be considered veal in dog world. (and yes, they'll still love you, to them you're mama cat.)
No, I have never personally imprisoned a cat, but I've watched many suffer through boredom and inactivity until they died from complete lack of wanting to live as such, fat and limp and too out of shape to do anything, and felt they were more than justified in pissing on the belongings of their jailers any time they felt like it. Here in Beautiful Central Oregon the only cats that survive and live long healthy lives are feral cats which are born wild and live entirely outdoors, year-round. Most house-cats invariably get out one or two times and "disappear" (cougars, bobcats, raccoons, porcupines...) it's a rough world for a citified house-cat. So, no spray on me or mine. Biggest, baddest, bunny-bagging, sage rat slayers you've ever seen. Average weight is anywhere from 20-35lbs. I usually have at least 3 patrolling the property, laying down the law to any and all rodents that dare to invade my personal space. They do a lot of their hunting between my deck and the river so they provide me with much entertainment watching them earn their keep. Amazing hunters. Domesticating them seems absolutely cruel to me having seen them thrive so well in their natural environment. I have a small barn with openings where they sometimes hang in the winter weather, but I have no idea where they sleep most of the time. Tried for a couple years to feed them but they had no interest in store-bought. They like the real deal. Average life-span for them seems to be about 7-8 years on average.
They're not broken, anymore than you or I. They function as nature made them, for very good reason. So, scientifically speaking, you can't "fix" them. You're tinkering with nature, playing "god", and the butterfly effect on the food chain, for example, is beyond your comprehension. It is nothing short of what Hitler did to the Jews, supposedly for science. crandc says she does it simply to avoid embarrassing comments from her friends and a cleaning bill. I think I'm going to arrange a Million Cat March to protest, and we'll piss all over bus seats and furniture stores everywhere.
