During Bill Walton's long rant about the history of the franchise last night, when talking about Bill Schonely, he asked the question, "Where's his statue?". That prompted Dan Sheldon to ask the question this morning--who in Blazers franchise history would be most deserving of the first statue being put up outside the arena?

Schonely was a dick to Wheeler. No way I want to look at that dudes face whenever I go to games.

I think it has to be Dr. Jack.

Agree that Jack is my first choice, but if it was a player then Luke.

I wish I could forgive Walton, because I agree he probably should be there. But, I still remember what an idiot he was and how much I cringe whenever he opens his mouth. Although he has gotten a bit better in the last few years.

Walton only played for us for 4 years. Is that statue worthy? I dont think so.

    Forgive him for what, exactly?

I remember he left Portland on bad terms, but I thought his problems were with the medical staff and team management, not the fans or the city of Portland.

I was in attendance when they retired his jersey in 1989. It felt like a big kiss and make up, let bygones be bygones moment. Enough time had passed since his departure than any old wounds had healed (literally) and he seemed to have a genuine affection for the people of Portland and the state of Oregon and seems to really appreciate and cherish his time here.

That 77 team was a true team... everyone contributed, everyone had a role. Walton's career stats were very good, but not amazing.
You can argue that Maurice Lucas was just as valuable during the championship series vs the 76ers.

Championship or not, I just dont think Walton was here long enough to deserve a statue. Just my opinion.

Cleveland wouldn't of come back and won the championship last year without Kevin Love. The Cavs arent giving him a statue.
