Can the blazers get some sort of injury exception due to Ezeli's condition and use that to sign Sanders? Would it be enough?

Yes. The league would have to approve it, and it's a tough sell.

I think it would put us in the LT, though.

In other news, the no trade restriction for CJ expires tomorrow.

    That's not a hint.

Hi, I'm Larry Sanders and I don't want to sign with a contender for low cash.
I don't want to sign for big cash with a mediocre team way below the cap, either.

I want to sign for the vet. min. with a team in a rainy city backwater that is 20-27 and puts on the most airplane miles in the league!!!

tldr; I'd love to get Larry Sanders, but he wouldn't want to come here, no matter how much I'd like that. BTW, he lives in LA.

God dammit why can't we have nice things

I know how the cap works, but somehow forgot we were so much over.

Disabled player exception? Didn't that deadline pass on the 15th?

Not sure. I don't think it's something we need or want to do if it puts us into LT.

Would it put us in LT if we dumped a bigger contract than whatever sanders will get?

    No.

Even at vet minimum, Sanders' contract would be prorated. I'm not 100% sure if we'd only need to dump one or two of our lowest paid guys.

We can't just cut a guy to get the cap space back. We'd have to trade for no salary back. It probably costs us a pick (2nd round) to entice a team to help us. The team needs the cap space to take our guy, too.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Maybe trade someone like Davis. He's got to have some sort of value. Denver should just trade us Nurkic for a package including Harkless or Davis :)

    I wish.

Davis would easily fetch us a 2nd rounder and we'd gain his $6M salary from the books. We're still over the cap, without Davis (a key player), and still only have the vet minimum to use.

Denver is $19M under the cap, so they could take $19M in salary in trade for a conditional 2nd round pick.

Maybe we have a package they'll go for. But I have seen enough of NO that if there is a deal, he's considered it. Denver might be saying CJ or no deal. I would not blame NO for moving on.

We gotta find a way to get rid of Davis, Leonard, and Ezeli.

I think Denver would be interested in Harkless btw

Denver has 2 solid SFs. They don't need Ezeli; they already have cap space, but If we took a non expiring $7M contract in return, they might like him.

Because they have two really good C prospects doesn't mean they're motivated sellers.

Their PG sucks. Got one to interest them in a deal?

Neither gallinari nor Chandler figure in denvers long term plans. Gallinari has one year left and I think they would trade both of them in an ideal scenario. Harkless matches the timeline of Jokic, who they will build around.

The thing is Denver is below the floor by about $8M. If they take Ezeli's contract, they end up saving about $5M. With Brooklyn & Philly in the same boat - I could see one of those three teams give up a 2nd for Ezeli
