Look, I don't agree w/this EO entirely. But let's not jump to conclusions and roll with he said, she said.

 

Did you watch the video? Are you claiming Rudy was lying? He asked Rudy how to legally ban Muslims. And Rudy came up with the bones of the EO.

 

I would also like to ask, why people think this is a Muslim ban when those 7 countries have, if reports are to be believed, a combined total of 12.2% of total Muslim population.


Statement Regarding Recent Executive Order Concerning Extreme Vetting

“America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border. America has always been the land of the free and home of the brave.

We will keep it free and keep it safe, as the media knows, but refuses to say. My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror. To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.

This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days.

I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering.”

 

I don't know if Rudy is lying or not. I don't care what Rudy said. I care what the President said, and he reaffirmed today that it was not a ban on Muslims, and there are plenty of other countries left off the ban that have far more Muslim concentrations than those 7 countries.

Also, for comparisons sake, where was the outrage when Obama did this for 6 months (TWICE) as long as Trump's 120 day plan.

This travel ban, poorly executed, is sorely needed IMO. I will say though, I do not like how it went out without a better plan and strategy to handle people with green cards and other obvious situations to not detain.

FYI- 3 of the 7 are state sponsors of terrorism and the other 4 are being actively monitored by the NCTC.

 

So if Trump has a private view and a different public view on what he intended to do with the EO, you don't care? Didn't you slay HC for this in her GS speech?

 

It's like you guys totally fail to understand the whole concept of the temporary travel ban, temporary refugee block and immigration reform (wall, and other things).

This country is not ever, nor will it ever be, enacting an immigration ban.

Do people not know what the word temporary is? Where was all the hoopla when Obama did it? Or was it okay because he was black and a democrat, or that he dropped bombs instead...

 

• Base it on religion Obama's order - which was done with very little fanfare - selected Iraqi nationals based on geography and a specific event, not religion.
• Do it out of the blue It was done in response to a specific event, and to allow FBI agents enough to gather fingerprints from captured roadside bombs, which they used to toughen their refugee screening process

They've already lost.

Trump did not do it based on religion and has said as much in later tweets. Trump is selecting the countries from a list that NCTC has, 3 of which are State sponsors of terror and the other 4 are on watch. This is specific geography and related to the terror level of those countries from an Obama run cabinet report.

Doing it out of the blue? No he did not. This has been a campaign promise since last year.

 

Privately his intent was for it to be a muslim ban, which shouldn't be all that surprising since he proposed a Muslim ban a year ago. He is not proposing this in response to a specific threat. He didn't just suspend visa applications. He detained people who had legal papers. Trump had two months to design this EO and this is the best he could come up with? Sad.

 

This is the best Rudy could come up with to make it not look like a Muslim ban.
