I thought so. I think NO wants to keep and use the $7M expiring himself. It makes it easier to deal with the LT situation next year.
Correct. This is an exception that creates a salary slot to sign a player, it is not a form of cap relief. Both Ezeli's and the new player's contract would count against both the cap and the luxury tax. In that case, we could (assuming it was applied for and granted) use the DPE to sign a player, even though we are $19 million over the cap, but would them need to move another player (taking back less, or hopefully nothing, in salary in return) to avoid crossing the luxury tax threshold. BNM
Yes. We already talked about that possibility. Or we could trade a player for another player with equal or lesser salary who's better than Sanders. That's my preference.
He could have still applied for the DPE and used it or let it expire. This is not a medical retirement (like Darius Miles). We'd still be paying Ezeli his full salary and he'd still be under contract to us. This does not change his contract status in any way. We could still trade him at the time of the draft, or keep him and decline his team option for 2017-18 by June 30. So, we could get both the DPE and the future LT relief. BNM
maybe he was informed about blazers seeking exemption around 13th, remember quick posting about ezeli locker room goodbyes then?
It wouldn't have involved him leaving the team, though. It would just have given the Blazers an extra salary slot.
Correct. A disabled player is not cut or waived. They are still under contract and can workout, rehab and travel with the team. BNM
Where is upshaw this year? It looks like he made it for about 1/2 year in Dleague I. '16, then disappeared.
Hate to say it guys, but this is NOT the place for him. He will fall off the wagon in our Pot rampant town. How long before he fails a UA? Wish it weren't so, but it would take serious discipline, which is something he has not shown in the past.
he's now "increasing his efforts" to return to NBA, wonder if POR is one of the 3 teams? http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/244757/Larry-Sanders-Increasing-Efforts-To-Return-To-NBA
I really think you and others take weed wayyy to seriously in terms of it being a detriment to basketball performance. Meta World Peace used to drink hennesy during fucking halftime when he was on the lakers when they we're winning titles. I had a friend who set the single season block record in washington (high school) he said he'd smoke a blunt before every game with some of his teammates. I know its not the same competition or whatever but still. Point is I have absolutely no problem if he smokes pot (or even if he gets a positive test while on our roster) if he can bring what he brought in milwaukee you cant pass that guy up for some bogus reason like pot.
