When you're shooting mostly 3s, it doesn't matter who's closing out on you. Rythym is a much more important factor.
Did you guys know, in his last 5 games, Gordon Hayward is shooting 40%, and only 33% from downtown? Not sure he's the answer there in Utah. BNM
Most here felt the same way about Victor Claver. I'm not saying that Layman is Claver 2.0, but I need to see a lot more than he's shown since that one hot shooting quarter of garbage time three months ago and some D League highlights before I'm convinced he can be a valuable contributor at the NBA level. BNM
True, honestly, if I'm terry stotts, I tell him to stop shooting threes. He's obviously terrible at them. That's been proven.
I was one of them...loved his defense...on a call in interview I asked Wes Mathews who was the best unknown player in the gym and he said Victor can shoot way better than fans think from his limited time on the court...words from Wes....sadly, Vic never found his stroke in a game.
He got plenty of burn his rookie season, actually started 16 games, but was out of the league 2 years later. Mike Barrett used to also go on and on about how Claver was a lights out shooter in practice. He just couldn't do it when it mattered. BNM
Claver was never a shooter, his entire O game was dunking. Here is a clue. Claver's first season FT% in the NBA was .467, and for his career .585. Claver was always a bad free throw shooter, even before he was drafted. FT% is usually a good indicator if a player can improve his FG % & 3pt%. Layman has shown he can shoot, and his College FT% was .759. Far better than Claver's.
I wonder if he didn't make his free throws in practice also. Some kind of nerves could hurt both wide open threes and FT shooting.
Victor is avg about 10 pts a game in Russia last 2 seasons...just signed back in Spain this season...the dude has 5 medals I think from international competition...bottom line...I like Victor....didn't stick in the NBA game...we traded him just when he was probably starting to understand English...his English seemed really sketchy.Him and Joel Freeland....role players with defensive skills
When I was in the Marines, we did some training with the Royal Marines. I couldn't tell you what the fuck they ever said. We drank a lot though lol.
