indeed, Van's been on a binge for 40 yrs now, it seems? I saw Rick Danko and Levon Helm play together (post Band) in Huntington Beach's old landmark night club, The Golden Bear in 79. Van was on the bill, lived just down the street, and didn't show up. Seem's Van has been known to lose himself to his booze for decades now, a shadow of the man he once was? Ironic too, as Danko would die too young from his own bout with drinking, drugs, rock and roll...
^^^^Thanks for this tip, I was unaware this CD existed, and for a great cause too.... Thoreau was brilliant, epic, classic and insightful, as good as writer philosopher's come.... I've long admired Henry's determination canoeing through the Maine Wilderness during a time, when wilderness traveling was a matter of life and death. Extremely inspirational author, Walden's as good as any American author's work ever was. Love Emerson's work as well, and the life style of living deep in thewoods, outside of society's ills. My idea of a grand life, not for most or anyone, and/or those faint of determination.
...Matts, I may be telling you something you already know, but the land at Walden Pond which Thoreau lived at for a couple of years while writing "Walden" was actually owned by a close friend of his...Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I thought so, and I've long imagined what Walden Pond and that very wilderness was like in its untouched splendor, as well as what those woods were like during the early mid-1800's....during the time, era of Thoreau, Emerson pre-settlement days of that area. From their works, it sounded breathtaking, a taste of heaven on earth.... It's obvious how inspiring Walden was to entice the minds thoughts, in the written word, for Thoreau, Emerson also... I'd love to visit Walden Pond St. Park today, though I've never been to Massachusetts....Kim's been to Walden park, when she was a kid; she grew up in Maine. Mass, and Boston were places her family often visited. She's had family spread across ME, VT, MASS, upstate NY. She's often said when we were in Georgia, that Ga. was more like N.E. than any other states.... She compares the Northwoods, WA, Ore, northern Cal to Maine, and compares Mass to Ga.... She's got a great bunch of Uncle's, one a literature major and retired teacher; only problem is, they don't know a great baseball team when they see one....lol...
