This is all Paul's master plant to move the team to Seattle. Allow negative sentiment to rise from a shitty team. Team will continue to lose. Interest will wane dramatically. Prices will stay high. City will eventually ignore and boycott ......... Seattle SuperBlazers /barf Sly, wake me up! I'm trapped in a nightmare!
I watch the games religiously, but the losses or wins don't mean as much to me. Last year's team was a release for me. An outlet to get away from the shit I was going through in real life. This year, I'm going through nearly as much shit, but they are no longer my outlet. The games are something I feel (often times) obligated to watch because I paid all this $ for league pass and still connect a bit with the players. The passion is gone though, and it sucks. Feel let down after a season filled with hope-- and I have enough of that going on in real life to let this team bring me down more.
I've been a season ticket holder for 10 years and this is the first year I am seriously considering not renewing. Don't want to be short-sighted, but it is hard to see this team improving a lot or being more entertaining. They are a 40-50 win team and first round exit team at best, even with a trade.
I will always follow this team through thick and thin. But one thing I will call them out when I see the players not given the effort. If they give a effort and still loose I can except that but what I don't except is players got these big contracts and they don't put the effort in to earn those contract.
old farts rely heavily on dirty play and technical fouls to make up for lost athletic ability....I use lots of flagrant fouls.
When we were getting blown out, people were saying they'd be fine if the losses were close, if we were competitive. Now we've been competitive in every game for a few weeks and people are still complaining. Not sure how you can say the effort isn't there.
Our defense is improving...I'll say that. I'm as big a homer as there is but I have to say, it's not an exciting season for me yet at all...
I have not been able to catch all games for multiple years now, so nothing changed. I do find myself less excited about the ones I do get to watch, however.
I had no problem with the OKC game....they are just better but we competed. The fact that Westbrook blew up in the 4th quarter is just because he is better than anyone we have and no one on our team can slow him down. The Dallas game was a disaster. Sure, it was close at the end but to be down 24 points to a team missing as many players as they were that they had to rely on an all 2nd/3rd string back court that still torched our is embarrassing no matter what the final score.
Great effort in going down by 24 in the first half against Dallas. At home. After several days of rest. And playing against a team that had done the exact same thing to them earlier in the season. Sorry, but they are a strangely complacent group of mediocre, capped out guys. Our only hope rests in the lottery and big trades.
I don't think that the effort was necessarily lacking as much as lack of effective play. It seems to me that so often when the Blazers fall behind it's because other teams cover Dame and CJ tightly and lure the less effective players into taking the shot. That usually results in a brick. The other problem is lack of rebounding. The Blazers are small at every position with this new starting lineup. That's not a good recipe for getting boards. The first OKC series yesterday was amazingly bad defensive rebounding by the Blazers.
He killed the Blazers that night, that's for sure. Dame said after the game that the game plan was for the Blazers to go under the screens. I hope he just said that because he was embarrassed in his lack of coverage on Ferrel. If that was actually the plan, then Stotts should have changed it once Yogi started scorching us.
No kidding. Barret and Rice compared to Calabro and Hurd were surprisingly organized. They did the keys to game before the game started. Why the hell are C and H doing keys for the opponent? Mike and Mike actually sounded like Blazer commentators. Seems like Calabro and Hurd spend most of their time complimenting the opponent. Plus Calabro and Hurd are so fucking boring to listen to. I liked how when there was a controversial whistle, Mike and Mike would automatically look at the replay and talk about it. Meanwhile now, its just Hurd talking up some play two plays ago that no one gives a crap about. There was an identity last year, not this year.
It's usually combination of bad, ineffective play and a total lack of urgency, most noticeably on the defensive end where their already thin talent can't afford to lollygag for an entire quarter or the game is effectively over. There've been a lot of performances this season where that has been in question right from the start. I think the Orlando home game was similar to the Dallas games. A rested home team going up against a mediocre opponent and immediately going down by 20. That speaks to some pretty bad focus and effort IMO.
When they don't go under screens, the Blazers players--especially Lillard and McCollum--get wiped out by the screen. They don't have the awareness to see/feel the screen coming and they aren't good at fighting over it and staying attached. This is the fundamental problem. The Blazers players' general defensive incompetence ties the hands of the coaching staff.
It is really hard to be into the games these days, with the way we are losing. It is hard to root for your team, to scream your lungs out for them when they don't seem to care. As a die hard fan, though I try to watch every game regardless of the record we have. I try to keep my head up, but it seems to be getting heavier every game with each demoralizing loss. But, there I am the next game, hopeful. Fuck my life.
I was really disappointed when he drafted Dani Diaz. I know it was just a second round pick, but if you watch him for 2 seconds you can see he's not NBA material. It was like "fine - you want me to draft Euro guys? How 'bout this one? He's got good stats, right?" Surely we can afford as good scouts as teams like Denver, Utah, San Antonio? And can't we actually LISTEN to them instead of drafting Earnest Good Character 4-year (often white) College Player X Who Can't Play Defense?
