Re: The old ABA doesn't get enough respect I've heard people say on here that the ABA was a minor league with no defense, etc.that is far from true...around the time of the merger, the ABA was just as good as the NBAconsider the following facts:The year before the merger (1976), the NBA had 18 teams and the ABA had 9, yet in 1977, 10 of 24 NBA All-Stars were former ABA playersIn the 1977 NBA finals, 3 of Philadelphia's 5 starters were former ABA players (including their two best players Erving and McGinnis) and 2 of Portland's 5 starters were former ABA players (including their leading scorer, Maurice Lucas)Of the 4 ABA teams which joined the NBA (Denver, Indiana, San Antonio, New York Nets) San Antonio and Denver made the playoffs (with Denver winning their division with the second-best record in the league) and Indiana narrowly missed the playoffs. The only team with a bad record was the Nets, but that was because they had lost their best player (Julius Erving)
Re: The old ABA doesn't get enough respect NBA won both interleague Allstar games, though it was by a small margin.
Re: The old ABA doesn't get enough respect The only cool thing about the ABA was Darnell Hillman and his ridiculous fro.
