Probably due diligence. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/yankees-interested-in-chris-carter.html
...I hope that all it is...unless he's will to lower his salary demands and will to take short deal, no thank you....career .218 hitter who strikes out 1 out of every 2.5 AB....with that in mind I'm sure he'll sign elsewhere, maybe even Japan. ...I'm still scratching my head over the structure of the Chapman contract. (unless Cashman adds a front end starter before opening day)
Update (3:08pm ET by Mike): According to BobNightengale, the Yankees have agreed to a one-year deal with Carter, pending physical. It’ll pay him a $3M base salary plus incentives. Carter gets a $500,000 signing bonus plus an extra $100,000 each for 250, 300, 350, 400, and 450 plate appearances. =============================================== ...not a bad pickup considering the terms of the 1 year deal...DH, backup 1B and LF. (not very good defensively)
I'm actually good with this signing, when making contact he could prove to be a difference maker against Sale's and the likes.
Hey Frank, good to see you pop in every now and then. I also like this signing and think as a DH or PH would help out the Club.
...hey MB...how's it been going?...I'm reading that Carter will likely be a platoon option at 1B and LF but looking at his career splits vs LHers and RHers, his numbers are almost identical...and his numbers vs Sale (only 13 ABs) are not good at all. But hey, again, considering the contract, not a bad pickup at all and I'm sure there will be times when we'll praise him when he takes the opposing pitcher deep and there will be times when we dog him for striking out with the game on the line. ...hard to complain about Carter's one year deal that pays him peanuts...but for the Yanx to really be a factor this year, we still need to add another front end starter.
...^^^^ double down on a front end starter, or two..... hope like hell, one of our prospects, drafts, can prove to be just that, maybe I'm wishing too much too soon, .... ST will clear a lot up, as to who's ready and who's not, (I hope)...
over crowded???? http://yanksgoyard.com/2017/02/08/yankees-signing-chris-carter/?utm_campaign=FanSided Daily&utm_source=FanSided Daily&utm_medium=email why trading Castro doesn't make sense: http://yanksgoyard.com/2017/02/07/yankees-trading-starlin-castro/
I'm pulling or Bird and Austin both to make the team and Castro to be retained. Steiney & Cash, what a duo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
^^^ I'm just hoping that Bird's Arizona Fall League numbers are simply an anomalous speed bump. (.215 .346 .354 .700) ...on the other side of the coin, Gleyber Torres was an absolute monster in the AFL (.403 .513 .645 1.158)
this should make for a great ST, along with many many other question marks, and tons of talented players to look at. Plenty of welcome surprises I hope gel as a team, and remain consistent performers. Now if any semblance of a starting pitching staff would begin to surface any day now, any month, I hope this year we have an idea whose going to be fixtures on the mound for years to come. I hope to hell Headley would get paid to sit home.
