Which highly potential point guard would you take right now? Which one would you take 5 years from now?
Obviously Chris Paul, it's been debated enough...well..it's never really been a debate, it's obvious that Chris Paul is just a better player...his speed, athletic ability and first step make him better.
Yeah CP3 is the answer. Like BCB said, he quicker and more athletic, but his defense is also a couple steps ahead of Deron's. However, I will say this - I am one of Deron's biggest fans and he will most definitely be one of the top PG's as well, without question. But the difference is, Deron will be one of the top point guard's while Chris Paul will be THE top point guard in the league 2-3 years down the line.
Chris Paul w/o a doubt he is already one of the best pg's in the league and is extremely athletic and has more speed and quickness than Deron Williams. Deron will be very good in his career too as he has really stepped his game up this year but IMO Chris Paul is the easy and will be one of the top 3 pg's in the league in about 2-4 years.
I would take CP3 in a heartbeat. The one thing IMO that Deron is better at is shooting, and that is about it. Paul is better at getting to the hole, he is a better defender, he is a better passer, and he is a better rebounder. He also has more of an impact on his team. When he came back from his injury, New Orleans really picked up their game. Deron is a great PG, but CP3 is just a little bit better in every category except shooting.
Me and my brother talked about this last night. Even though Deron Williams has the ability to become a better scorer than Paul, Paul is still a very good penetrator and he will eventually get much better at shooting. Paul is a better rebounder and defender that Deron Williams, and IMO Chris Paul has the ability to run a fast pace team, and a half court team. I would take Chris Paul as well.
Chris Paul. He is one of my favorite players. He is a better passer, is a lot faster and has very long strides, better rebounder, and better defender. Like everyone has said, the only thing Deron is better at is shooting.Chris is shorter than Deron, he's listed at 6' but looks more like 5'10", and can dunk better than Deron.Chris has some powerful legs! In a year or two CP3 will be the best point in the league.
Chris Paul over williams. dey r both very talented players but deron williams IMO is just not on the same level as CP3.
now: paul5 years: paulfor some of the reasons stated, but d-williams should have been playing in the all star game. 18/9 on the year. thats hella good.
This debate is going to go on until they're both out of the league and probably long after. the key to this question is what kind of team does one have around them? if you have a run and gun team which is young and athletic, than you're going to want Chris Paul. if you have a team which requires set plays, screens, and a slower paced game you're going to want Deron Williams. A lot of people give the Utah Jazz crap for not taking Chris Paul before Williams. the thing everyone forgets is Utah wasn't/isn't built the same way the Hornets are. The Jazz have 3 big guys who are quick, but they aren't at their best in a running style. the Hornets have bigs who are more athletic and are better capible of playing with a point guard like Chris Paul. if the two were switched to the other team, I don't think either of them would be as good as they are, they're both in the perfict situation for themselves.
Chris Paul. Deron probably has the better long range shot, but Chris is quicker, he plays good D, he's the superior passer, and he scores more. Deron is proving to be a very good player, but he's not on the level of Chris Paul, and I don't think he'll ever be.
CP3. But lets all take a minute to jump on Deron's nuts. The kid has taken a lot of criticism and has never really had the chance to shine like he has now since high school. He was always over-shadowed by Dee Brown and Luther Head in college, and was never really asked to do as much as he has now. He really was the missing piece for the Jazz and has a very bright future in this league.
CP3he's better offensively and a better defender pretty much...he can run any team on the fast break and you know you're going to get a lot of points with him as your PGDeron Williams though...I love Deron and he's going to be an amazing player and an all star next year IMO
I would take CP3 any day. He pretty much is better in every category except shooting. Hes the better at attacking the rim, playmaking, leadership.
They both are very good but I'd take Chris Paul. Been watching him since his HS days and college and knows what he can do.
We've had this thread before - I picked CP3 the first time and I'll choose him again. That doesn't mean that Williams is a slouch. Both these guys have potential to be the top two PG's in the NBA in the future. Deron really progressed since his first season, and CP3 is just keeping his great play up despite the injury. Paul's all around game is fantastic, whereas Williams isn't as good of a defender or rebounder. But someone brought up how Williams was shadowed his whole career at Illinois by Brown and Head, but now he's showing how good he actually is, and it's great to see. Both of these guys are great kids, with good heads on their shoulders. They're smart and know how to play the game. CP3 is just better.
I would pick Deron Williams because He's a much better leader, assist man and a better scoring point gaurd. Why does everyone think Deron was in Dee Browns shadow? He and Dee Brown Where the best players on that team. On that team those guys couldn't be seperated. When Deron left Illinois and Dee stayed they called each other basicly everyday. I know that because I interviewed Deron and Dee Brown. They are really freindly. But I would pick Deron and Dee Brown over Chris anyday.
This topic isn't about Dee Brown, it's about Paul/Williams....and obviously Deron Williams is better...
