I have always wondered why American sport, when they crown the Championship team (baseball, basketball, etc etc) that they pronounce themselves WORLD champions - Clearly its untrue and are Americans really that arrogant? What do you all say about this one?
for every sport except for soccer like the MLB, NHL, NBA, NFl... its the main league, the league everyone wants to go to. Thats why they are able to say world. Plus there are athletes from around the globe in those sports. the only real American only sport is MLS
Because they are the best leagues in the world in the country with the best athletics in the world and the best players in the world.
:no3: :no1: yeah the best players in the world from the best league got bronse at the Last World Champions

I don't use our results in international competition to judge how well we play basketball...the rules/style of play is designed for international players, those teams have been playing together for years and years...compared to us being slapped together in a few months. I don't give a sh*t about Olympic basketball, I'd like us to do well but I'm not going to bi*ch if we don't.

America didn't win because of bad coaching, little team chemistry, and badly put together group. Still little 3pt shooting as well.
The international greats were spread out over several teams - not like they all played on the same side!!!!!!!!I do agree that the coaching was bad.
This is debateable. Both sides have goods. But I think it depends on the sport. The only major American sport that does it, atleast that I remember, is NBA and NFL. I beleive to say that the NBA is the best basketball league in the world and the NFL is the best football leauge in the world. Not sure about MLB, maybe. But for MLS, who ever wins that championship shouldnt be called world champs. Its obvious America isnt primary for soccer as a sport

But, they call it the World Series because there are a lot of Asians and Latinos in there and they make up a big part of that league.
What has already been said is basically true. The NFL champions are the best football team in the world at that time. No question about that. As for NBA, you could debate about rules and all that crap, but I think the same goes for that. Baseball players come from all around the world to play in the MLB. Whether it's Ichiro, Pudge, or whomever, they are the best from their country and have the same rights to be a world champion as Derek Jeter or any other American does. So I think it's also fair to call them world champions. I don't really care about NHL, honestly, but I do know that most of the players in that league are not American. So I don't think the America thing has anything to do with it.
