    Of course they are listening. The guy only has to work a few weeks a year and this is one of them.

    He would be an idiot not to listen and find out what is available from other teams. (players/picks) And if he likes it, he can always counter with someone else. Or remember it for later.
    Dialogue with other GM's can't hurt.

    It not only doesn't hurt to talk and listen, it's a vital part of the job.

    I'd offer that every such conversation helps estimate the market for every other player in the league.

    Also, I'd again offer that it sometimes happens that a conversation about one player leads to conversations and even deals for other players.
