Who in the NBA is the biggest threats when they are in pick and roll situations? I can think of 3 players that are just great when they are used in the pick and roll. Steve Nash, Amare Stoudamire, and Dirk Nowitzki. Nash is undoubtably the best player to use a pick while Amare and Dirk are just great when setting the pick. I think Dirk is a little better though because he can shoot the jumper so easily. He's a 7 footer who shoots like a two guard like we all know. Pre injury Amare was such an explosive player before the injury, and is slowly but surely comming back to hs own.
Nash/Amare ar eunstoppable on the pick and roll. They destroy most teams with it because of nash's shooting ability and Amare's athleticism and now range.Dirk is great off of it, T-Mac/Yao combo is great, etc...
Not a pick and roll but...When Billups and Rasheed pull the pick and pop at the top of the arc it's darn near impossible.
Dwyane Wade anyone? In that Christmas game against the Lakers, Kobe couldn't even get near Wade because all of those badass picks he was getting. Who knew that Michael Doleac was such a hardass?

But Yeah, Wade's almost impossible to guard off the screen.
I would pick Kobe, he can put it up without the pick and roll, and he can do it with 2 hands in his face.
Williams and Boozer should get some credit here. the Jazz are basically running the same system today which they ran that made John Stockton the NBA's alltime assist leader, and Karl malone #2 alltime on the scoring list. while Williams and Boozer aren't nearly as effective as S&M, They still get the job done.
We haven't seen him do it much in the NBA, but I think J.J Redick is going to be doing that ALOT in his career. He did that a lot at Duke, just needs more playing time.
This is basically a thread were everyone is going to mention a guard and a forward from their favorite team...hahaBUT, I think that Dirk and any guard on Dallas is always a good one because he always creates matchup problems. Nash handles screens very well and can give his screener any pass he wants, and Tim and Tony have a pretty good one as well. Tim can pick and pop, or even pick and roll, and they are both very effective.

He's a precision passer and he has done excellent with the pick and roll this year. He's very effective with the pick and pop with Memo as well. He's just a heady player and he has outstanding court vision and timing on his passes.

I think if Yao & T-Mac worked on it more often, they could be really deadly with the pick & roll. We all know Yao can shoot that mid-range shot, but if you let T-Mac go, you're gonna either give up two points or a foul on one of your big men.

The pop is really just a variation of the roll. The pick and roll would be probably the most basic offense that a team can use since its so effective and somewhat easy to learn. Teams that use on the ball screens use both the roll and pop effectively, thats why I didnt really divide it into differnt kinds of picks and screens. Also, Dirk just doesn't do the role of the "picker." Sometimes they vary it up in the games and Howard, Terry, Stackhouse, etc do the picking while Dirk is the one with the ball. Thats why I think he would be considered the most dangerous in the pick and roll along with Nash. I think those 2 along with Amare are head and shoulders above the others mentioned. Not saying Williams/Boozer and Duncan/Parker arent good at it I'm just saying that they arent as effective at it as Dirk, Amare, and Nash are. Most of Nash's assists come off the screen and roll as do Dirk and Amares points. Duncan and Boozer get most of thier points on the blocks. They dont play the pick and roll as many times as the formentioned Dirk, Amare, and Nash do. Thats how I see it. 1.Dirk,Amare Nash2.duncan/Parker3.Boozer/WilliamsI dont think Kobe, T-Mac, etc should be mentioned in the convo because they dont play a ton of screen and roll in their systems. Both are iso players and get a ton of points like this. When Kobe and T-Mac come off screens, they are coming off staggered screens and off the ball screens in which they are looking to score.
I think Amare is better because he's a much better finisher while he's rolling to the basket and his mid-range jumper is very reliable now, though not as good as Dirk's of course.
