It was more of a knock on playing Meyers at PF then suggesting Layman was our PF of the future. I said "we might as well" meaning at least he can cover the perimeter where his standing reach is not a factor. And his offensive skill set is better than either Meyers or Aminu's. (Regardless of what his small samples size tells us) And I very specifically said......it would only be against teams who use a stretch 4.

This. Noah has improved, maybe not as much as we all want him to, but he's far from that deer in the headlights who would turn the ball over trying to run the fast break.
Vonleh might be the worst offensive player on the team, in spite of the fact that he does possess nice shooting touch. Horrible FT shooter this year too, which implies that he still is having some serious confidence issues out there. That's a lousy attribute when playing in your 3rd season to low expectations.
One poster claimed his pre-draft measurements were similar to Thad Young and Eean Ilyasova. They are not, at least not the most important when for playing the power forward position. Players rarely move up a position when transitioning from college to the NBA - unless they are drafted as a teenager and have a late growth spurt. Layman doesn't quality. If he wasn't big enough to play PF in college, he certainly isn't big enough to play PF in the NBA. BNM.

Well, the title of the thread is Power Forward of the Future, and that's not Jake Layman. And yes, standing reach is a factor when guarding stretch 4s. With a standing reach of 8'6" other stretch 4s will just be shooting over him like he isn't even there. BNM

The Knick wouldn't do that. He is the cornerstone of their franchise and the one good draft pick they've made during the Dolan regime. With so many examples of bad decisions they have made, they are not doing to undo the one right thing they've done. BNM
Neither McCollum nor Lillard is worth Porzingas, unfortunately. A big who can both shoot and protect the rim and is still young enough to have even more upside simply isn't going to be traded.
I would disagree. Unless you are guarding Dirk, most other stretch 4's are shooting a set shot. I think Jake can jump 6-12" to make up for his short reach. Hell Napier could cover Meyers on the perimeter.
All true. So, is there a Porzingas in this draft? What about Markkanen? He doesn't block shots like Porzingas, but he's 7' tall and a lights out shooter. Where do you think he'll get picked. And chance he will be available when we pick? If not, would you try to move up to get him? BNM
The problem is, unless the guy you're guarding has a very slow release, you don't always have time to jump. Length matters, even when guard jump shooters. BNM
I know Dirk has been great and all (and Prozingas is well on his way) but I am really leary of drafting a Euro to a be a PF and expecting the guy to both defend and get a lot of rebounds for you. I hate to pigenhole but most Euros are like Bargnani and I would hate to have a type like him as a PF for us. We basically already have that person in Leonard and a lot are clamoring for him to leave.
Marvin Williams. Yes, he's going to be on the wrong side of 30 next year but we need a vet on this team. He can shoot the three ball well enough to make other teams have to respect it, he has great "switchability" on defense, and Charlotte is a dumpster fire as of late and will probably willing to make him available for youth and draft picks. And his contract matches up almost perfectly with Meyers.
