I see what @JDC is saying on that play. The initial contest was strong, but after forcing the shooter off the line, he didn't take responsibility for Welsh on the switch, really never even looked at him. He continued ball-watching instead of guarding his man. Right here: he should be boxing out for the rebound rather that attempting an impossible shot block.

If Welsh has any athleticism at all, that becomes a tip dunk follow. I haven't watched a ton of Duck ball, so I can't give an informed opinion as to whether or not this is indicative of how he usually plays, but I can understand how what's shown in that clip is not necessarily great team defense.

Bell is good on defense is because he is active out there on the floor. Yes he has got out of position but what player hasn't got out of position. Bell should be able to play power foward in the next level.

I'm not a Ducks fan, I've watched less than a full game of theirs all year, and I think Brooks is criminally underrated as a pro prospect due to the position he's listed at.

Agreed. If he can demonstrate the handles and consistent range necessary, he's got a chance to be a solid SG.

Then again, the same was probably said about Connaughton, and he hasn't really shown himself to have the potential many of us hoped he would.

I have done a reversal on Brooks. I didn't think he would ever be a NBA player until the last 2 months. I saw him as a tweener as well. But his explosiveness to the basket is better than I thought and his range has extended. He was always a good mid range shooter and his passing is very good, and he is strong for his position. The only concern I have left is his lateral quickness to cover other SG's. Brooks has a good chance to make it in the NBA if he continues to improve like he has this year, but his quickness could be an issue.

The Duck I don't think has any chance to make it in the NBA is Boucher. Ironically before the start of the year he was projected to have the best shot.

Yes I am a big Duck fan.

They don't just hand out Pac 12 Defensive players of the year as a participation trophy. Do they? Bad instincts? Extremely low IQ defender? Did he get that trophy from playing against bigs that are suggested lottery picks?

He's not the second coming of whoever. I would just rather have a defensive PF with a motor than all these hybrid PF'S that never pan out for us.

I love it when people laugh at someone's picks without showing who they would choose. Come on now. Don't be scared.

We all have our own opinion's. I have plenty of bad picks over the year's including Adam Morrison. lol. Wow did I miss that one.

My draft suggestions are posted throughout the numerous draft threads on this board but I'm not going get to into that. If you really wanna know what I think, go ahead and search for them.

And I never said he had bad instincts. That's pretty much the only thing he uses to make his defensive plays. It's the IQ/fundamentals/positioning that are lacking and if you wanna go watch full games of Oregon ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxuIRL5p9OD2FjNBlV9yXpQ/search?query=oregon) while keying in on him and you come to a different conclusion, I'd be glad to hear your rationale (honestly).

Look I respect your opinion on this. You make some great points. I guess when I think of low BBIQ I just don't think of players who have really good instincts and are able to produce because of it (top 10 nationally in steals, rebounds, and blocks) But I get your point on fundamentals.

Regardless I think this article today is relevant to our discussion. Its a decent read on Bell:

@JDC I wasn't directing every word in my post at you specifically. That's why I didn't reply to your post. I respect your opinion. No worries. I've watched plenty of games and so have the people who voted him PAC 12 Defensive player of the year.

Had a feeling, but wasnt sure.

My point in all of this was to refute the sentiment that Bell is some sort of plug and play nba-ready defender type, because he's not.

When you add that to his existing skill and physical shortcomings, that makes him a low ceiling prospect w/considerable risk which is the complete opposite of a safe/good value pick, even in the 2nd round.

The Tournament will answer some of the questions we have about our favorite picks.

March Madness is one of my favorite times of the year!

Let's go Ducks! (and the Zags!)

I never watched Patty C in college, but he strikes me as someone who would have always been the stereotypical scrappy white guy, not the potentially dominant athlete and offense initiator that Brooks is.

Your list of qualities pretty much summarizes my opinion of him. When you think of the prototypical SG, tell me this doesn't qualify... Good size (6'6" or whatever), strong, good handle, good defense, can run the offense or play off the ball, strong to the basket and in the mid-range, solid and rapidly improving outside shot, and an aggressive personality.

That's the sort of resume the Spurs draft at #29 or 30 and the rest of the league bitches for years about, "how do they always find those guys?"

Which, if you're a Dillon Brooks fan, is probably his best-case scenario.

We've done okay at developing combo guards the past few years...

He's more a swingman than a combo guard.

Yeah, I see a Richard Jefferson type game from him.

Dillon Brooks is a tough guy for me to evaluate. I haven't really gone in depth with him yet but his situation has me questioning how much of what he's showing at Oregon will translate.

First off, he typically has the speed/athleticism advantage on his matchup playing the 4 that he won't have in the nba.

He's also a guy that loves to catch and hold/survey before he makes his move. He's good enough to get away with that at the college level but he'll more than likely have to cut most of that out unless you think he can consistently beat nba level wings in 1v1 situations, which I think is a big question mark.

I'm also not totally sold on his J, but the evidence is mounting that says he should have a chance to be avg down the road. The fact he makes closely guarded college 3's gives me hope here.

Still not sure who he guards either.

That's where I disagree with the majority. He's playing out of position at the college level and is a much better prospect at his "real" position.

Was Terry Porter a good prospect as a PF?

Are you suggesting the Brooks is a good enough ball-handler and distributor to be a part-time point guard? I know he led the Ducks in assists last year, but I don't see him in that role at the NBA level at all.
