They need to hold a play-in game for the 8th playoff spot between the 8th and 9th team in each conference. This game should be on the home floor of the 8th seed. Here's the catch: the winner of these games not only gets into the playoffs, they get the 9th and 10th best odds in the lottery, with the losers getting 15th and 16th. This would be a fun, dramatic game. It would also entice teams 10th-14th to try to win games to get into the playoffs, AND to get a better draft pick. It would make sneaking into the playoffs a GOOD thing in ALL cases.
Only if the difference between the 8th or 9th seeds was a tiebreaker....wouldn't want the 9th seed to be 2 games out of the playoffs and have a chance to make it up with 1 game....even worse if they're 4 games away say...wouldn't work...
What are you talking about? I don't really understand. If the 8th seed is 4 games better than the 9th seed, them how is giving them that matchup, at home, over a worse team, to get a better draft pick, a bad thing?
i like simmons old tourny idea. have the top 7 seeds in each conference get a week off while the other 16 teams play single elimination to make the final spot. I'd watch.
