I only watched these cause they are blazer related and a chance to see the players out of their element a little bit. Evan Turner didn't know what was going on. Aminu's might be the second best one tied with Dame's. CJ's was the funniest.
I met Fred one time and he is a strange dude. And that is coming from a strange dude. I was serving at Dots Cafe and I see a random guy walk in and head straight to the bathroom. I didn't care, because sometimes you just have to go to the bathroom. The guy walks out and heads for the exit. He then stops at the door kind of vacillating whether to leave or stay. He then walks up to me at the server station and I see that it is Fred. In a completely Woody Allen tone, he pulls out a few crumpled 1 dollar bills from his pocket and shoves them into my hand and says, "Um...Umm....I just used the bathroom, but I didn't buy anything...um.....can I give you some compensation....ughh". I tried to refuse, but he made me take his money. The whole thing was incredibly awkward.
While I no longer have easy access to the photo, around Season 2 of Portlandia my oldest son had stopped at the "goat block" on lower Belmont so my granddaughter could commune with the goats. While they were peering through the fence, Fred and Carrie came strolling down Belmont, eating blueberries. My "star struck" son asked if they would pose for a picture with his daughter. They were extremely gracious about it and it's a wonderful photo....even though my granddaughter had (and still has) no clue who those nice people were. So, despite my misgivings about the show's effect on Portland, I'll always have a soft spot for them. Besides.......no matter how stupid the show can be sometimes and whether I like it or not, they nailed Portland (and the hipster culture in general) almost perfectly......
I only have a soft spot for the show because they gave me 1000 dollars to feature my artwork in season 4. Thanks Portlandia!
I liked Carrie's Brownsein's recent group Wild Flag and Armisten is actually pretty talented. But for me the Portlandia stuff just clangs. Anti-humor illicits a smirk and then nothing. To me it's like The White Stripes, "Oh I get it you're a novelty act. Oh how cute. You're playing to the critics and the music snobs in the room." Then you see other people taking them seriously and you're like "WTF! This is crap!"
I think it's cool that they have made an effort to involve the locals in fairly significant way. My neighbor was "Aunt Elizabeth" in the celery episode with Steve Buscemi. Though how they found her way out in the 'burbs I have no idea.....
Damn people shitting on this as if it was Dame pulling from half court. I personally don't think it's funny but I am not gonna go out of my way to bash it. Mostly watch it just to see what the players say, kinda lets you in on their personality a bit. Can't deny when Portlandia first started it was massively popular and spot on
It only made sense for them to do it eventually. Dame has done something on Portlandia. Lamarcus did. The team did a couple years back. Makes sense. I mean shit that's all we have in Portland. Portlandia, Blazers, Timbers.
Grimm would have been better. Dame and CJ turn into monsters. Everyone knows monsters play the best defense. See Nurkic for example.
