Hand-checking is rarely called in the NBA. People get away with so much hands it's crazy.

Hiring Isiah Thomas is the worst thing a basketball team can do

    Just a few excerpts:

Yeah, let's bring this guy in and let him ruin our team, too. He's had such overwhelming success everywere else he's been, right?

I know Dame was working with Gary Payton this offseason but I think that was mostly getting better at working through screens. I'm sure this offseason it'll be on the ball defending. But as a PG you're mostly fighting through screens all night lol

Ok guys, i'm more of a "you can learn something from anybody" type of guy, but i understand your concerns.

At least i learned that Dame and GP never had workout sessions, always wondered why the hell he didn't improve after that summer .

I found what Payton had to say though:

So that settles it, CJ and Dame will suck at defense forever:cheers:

No one saying he should take over a leadership role. Way to take this way OT. Maybe teach our fucking backcourt how to play below average defense instead of league worst

    Overreact much?

If you took the time to read the actual quotes, you would have seen three examples where he failed miserably as a coach; two in the NBA and one at the college level. He can't teach anyone shit. That's why he's no longer coaching.

Yet, you think he's the answer to teaching our guards how to play better defense? OK, if you say so.

Highly unlikely. He's simply not a good coach/teacher. He failed, and failed miserably, everywhere he's tried to coach. And, that was the point of my original post in this thread.

There has to be better options.

You mentioned the Pacers virtual same team, but they lost all star Dale Davis and Rik Smitts, among others. So absolutely not the same

I disagree. Working with a bad teacher can cause students to lose interest in learning. Why waste your time and energy working with someone who is a proven failure when there are better alternatives available?

No evidence he is a bad teacher. Bad recruiter? Sure. Bad talent evaluator? Sure. Bad head coach? Ok. Not all great teachers ofvthe game make good head coaches. In Indiana, his teams got better each year, after Bird tore it apart

Actually, he was a very good recruiter at FIU. That was the one thing he did well. His name recognition opened doors and was the main reason they hired him. He landed some top blue chip prospects, and then coached them to losing records.

Even if true, thats scheme, not teaching. As a coach, there is obviously teaching involoved, but assistants do most of the one on one teaching. Which is what we are talking about.

You don't want a good defensive HOF pg to give our shitty defensive back court any pointers for a few hours, and I can't see the harm. If he sucks as much as you "know" he will, they go from bottom 5 defender to what, bottom 4?
