For what I call an action movie I'd go with Bourne Identity and the first Mission Impossible movie....a lot of great action I put under superhero or fantasy or sci fi categories but I think the Bourne series is the best action because it's fight scenes aren't drawn out for dramatic effect...they are efficient. I also don't include comedy action either....also didn't factor in historical epics or westerns

Yeah. I like that one, but it didn't live up to its promise. It was kind of a mess, with lots of choppy editing because Jackie had to use a double due to an extremely tight shooting schedule. I remember hearing that the triads pressured him into appearing in Thunderbolt. Jackie has actually marched in anti triad protests in Hong Kong.

Although thinking about it makes me miss Alan Rickman.

Agreed. I mean, was "Patton" an action movie? I don't think so.

I think if you are looking for a Father in the Action Movie of the 80's, It's Walter Hill. Although his greatest effort is producing the Alien series, he directed one of the early prototypes for stylized-action of the time period in "The Warriors" and created the entire White Guy/Black Guy buddy cop films in "48 hours." I haven't seen an interview with major screenwriters who don't name check him as a major influence. The Aliens and Deadwood Series made him so much money that he doesn't direct anymore. But even his bad films are interesting.... well except maybe Streets of Fire.

Just got an ad for this by email. If you have not seen BOTH of these movies, then YOU MUST BUY THIS. Trust me, there is ass-kickage of an unparalleled degree. You will get bruised just by watching.

Excellent list. I'm particularly partial to Young Master, Dragon Lord, both Project As, Dragons Forever and Meals on Wheels.
A couple of more silly ones not on your list: Twin Dragons (tagline: "Jackie Chan - together at last") and City Hunter (a movie version of a video game). Less excusable absence: Police Story 3: Supercop. Jackie meets Michelle Yeoh - awesome stunts. There's also a part 4 now which is decent too.
The best ones for me are the ones that feature the three buddies of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. They grew up together and have amazing rapport. They're all together in:
Project A, Meals on Wheels and Dragons Forever (the greatest Kung Fu Courtroom Comedy-Drama ever).

Of course, if you haven't seen Kung Fu Hustle, you haven't lived. I think Bill Murray called it the greatest film ever made, and he's not far wrong.

With those conditions, my all time favorite action movie is Jeremiah Johnson.

Not only is this a great well told story, it is loosely based on a true story and the real Jeremiah Johnson. Many of the scenes are true.

My favorite scene is the “skin this grizz pilgrim".

Great unique movie but has too much slapstick comedy violence to win in an action category.

That is one of the very few movies I watch again when it comes on one of the TV channels. Another like it is the Mountain Men,
    Heston and Brian Keith.

I don't necessarily disagree, but would you say by the same reasoning that Evil Dead II is not Horror?

Kick ass movie, but not the best. I've gotta say its a few steps up from its predecessor, but it could have been better. That said Keanu still has it at 50

He got screwed in Executive Decision. Whoever wrote the script must have disliked the hell out of him. He was barely in the movie before he gets sucked out of a plane and dies
