Vegas wants the Raiders and are happy to make tourists pay for the stadium.

Sure. So they don't have to use state taxpayer money. You seem to keep missing the point. Rich people need to buy their own shit and stop charging poor people for it. Why people don't see this as wealth redistribution I don't know.

Why don't any of these owners take out their own loans and Finance their own stadiums?

Rich people always say pull yourself up by your bootstraps but when it comes to their stadiums they're pulling on our bootstraps.

You need to understand the difference between "Net Worth" and "Personal Wealth".

Let's say Paul Allen wanted to build a new arena here in Portland. Last I checked, his net worth was around $4 Billion. But that worth is in the stocks and bonds of properties and companies that he has stake in; as well as numerous deals and contracts. That isn't just cash that he can throw around and spend at his discretion however he wants.

If he absolutely HAD to, he could probably sell off much of his stock and raise a few hundred million dollars. But that is hardly enough for a stadium of any credence.

His actual WEALTH, that is...his actual money that he has to spend in his various bank accounts and Trusts....is probably somewhere in the $100 Million range....perhaps $500 Million at the most.

I know how much we would all like to think that Billionaires can just build and own whatever they want on their own dime. And yes, it's true that they are able to do a LOT with the fortune that they have.

But self funding a stadium out of their own pockets? Nope. There's a reason why it's usually a corporate-sponsored task (building and running a stadium), and not one of individuality.

You know...I thought $4 Billion looked pretty small. I can't remember where I saw that number....probably a celebrity site or something.....

Alright, heading off to the game thread.

The stadium will create more jobs in the area.

Davis is the poorest owner in the league. He barely could finance the 500 million he did.

How are poor people paying for it? Vegas costs money. Lots of rich old people visit to blow wads of money.

The only "poorish" people there are myself and sly. But we arent poor. Just cheap as fuck.

I'm talking about owners using public money in general. That text from for people and middle class. The bottom line is that they don't need the money. Pay for your own shit. Stop making others pay for it. Also trying to paint Al Davis as a poor person is really a stretch. Please stop period he owns an NFL team. He has credit to get a loan to finance a stadium. When will you all stand up to these 1 percenters?

When the 1-percenters stop providing us with countless hours of entertainment, consumer products, and thousands of jobs.

    Al davis is dead.

Mark davis inherited the team. He doesnt have all of his daddies money. His net worth is much more than his cash flow. That isn't a hard concept to understand.

It is true that he had to stretch to finance 500 million. The deal was rumored to almost fall out because his financing of that was shaky. 500 million wont buy you a stadium.

Think of it this way, i dont know the entire language in the deal, but if the extra hotel tax (again, paid for by tourists on vacation that probably arent poor if they are taking a resort vacation) is forever, it will be a tax stream for them in perpetuity.

Add that to the fact that these players likely will buy shit and pay sales tax in nevada......

I'm not sticking up for 1%ers. That is hog wash. This will be good for the city of Las Vegas. More tourists will likely show up....which means more tax money for the govt.

So if it ever came down to build the Blazers a new arena or the team moves to Las Vegas you would say bye to the Blazers?

    Oakland agrees with you.

That's the point that you keep missing... It should never come down to that. The fact that it does means that we have a weak society that caters to the rich. They get WAY MORE welfare than poor. All that money and they still need public money that takes away from schools, roads, and whatever to build their stadiums that they already have money for...

What happened to Paul Allen when he tried to shake us down? That's right, that MF filed bankruptcy.

Oakland needs money for their schools etc. not for their sports teams.

Public funding should NEVER subsidize the rich.

This is what I don't get about some of you, you complain up and down about Obamacare and how we are subsidizing people to get care that they need but nobody gives a shit about the subsidization and the corporate welfare that these rich people recieve. If you're someone like Denny you'll think that the oil companies still aren't getting subsidies.

Where the fuck are our priorities?

If you get my point why do you keep arguing about losing your keeping sports teams when the argument is about whether or not sports teams should be publicly funded? It's corporate welfare through and through.

And yes, everyone hates Clay Bennett...

This is so cosmically comical it brings tears to my eyes.

The Raiders are currently the favorite (practically only) team that gangs and thugs identify with. So much so that the NFL has been openly concerned about it for over a decade.

The cowardly hoods wear so much team merchandise they'd be naked without it.

Now the Raiders are suddenly the team of glam, aging singing-stars, and trust-fund-baby-wannabe-poker-players in Sparkle City.

Do the gangs risk public mockery, add a little sashay to their walk, or try to find another team with cool unis? :dunno:

    • April 21, 2017 18:08 Raiders Themed Brothel Planned:
Nevada brothel king Dennis Hof says he will build a Raiders-themed establishment to coincide with the NFL team's move to Las Vegas. Pirate's Booty will be located about 90 miles from Las Vegas in Nye County, where prostitution is legal. Hof says Raiders players and staff will get 50% off services and other VIP treatment.
