I'm somewhat torn on this. He has the frame to get really big. I don't know if it's a good idea for him to be heavier though. He is just 22 and at that age he might want to get very muscular. He doesn't need a lot of upper body strength though because of big base.
he lost 35 pounds during summer, and I dont know if he gained any back I posted this just so you know he can do that
I would say 'Yes'. A player always needs to spend some time in the weight room just for conditioning for the pounding their body will take. Not sure he needs to add more weight but toning up never hurts. Around the same weight with a little more muscle mass and less body fat is almost always a good thing.
The last thing he needs is mass. He's already built like a huge brick shit house. Just needs to perfect the jumper and get some post moves and we are cooking with gravy! As my pops always says.
That's why I said stay around the same weight. He is big but not that toned. Look at his arms...not a lot of definition. His body is still maturing. Keep the weight, just tone up.
As long as he doesn't add any weight he can't get off I'm fine. But we REALLY need a proper big man coach.
Id like him to spend summer improving his low post game, learning some moves, thats my biggest wish when it comes to Nurkic.. hes very strong, if he learns some post moves, combined with his strength, he would profit largely, so would Blazers.. ofc I want him to work on pnr, so he can get better, but also him mid range he can improve alot on both ends, he has great potential, will he live up to it, its up to him
A player must always put time in the weight room both during the season, and in the off season. I believe Nurk needs to lose some weight, as I have big injury concerns with any ones knees to hold up over an 82 game season at 7' 285+. They might not give out the first year... but it will happen if he stays at 285+. I'm sure he knows this, as well as the blazer organization.
For his age he already has a lot of weight. He needs to lose some fat so he can play 30 mins regularly.
Tone up, like Meyers, oh wait that doesn't matter because this isnt a bodybuilding competition. If anything I agree with the idea that he should lose weight. You can tell it makes a difference. He's shown more explosion lately and he even commented that he's dunking more because he's got his legs back. He's starting to look like he did last summer, when he was with his national team. Lean and mean.
Remember what happened to Big Edd when he vowed to put 25lbs on during the summer? It slowed him down and then he got injured. I like Nurks speed. I think he is the fastest center in the NBA for his size. Nurk is fine, just needs cardio.
He can fine tune his body, but his biggest off season goals should be footwork and catching the ball. Add to that an outside shot.
Yeah I think his current weight is fine. He does not look fat to me. But more strength never hurts, just not more mass like everyone has mentioned. Improve the mid range set shot (i.e Mark Gasol) and perfect the hook. The hook shot is KEY. The way he pounds on people down low, an even more reliable hook (and slightly better handles) .......... he would be unstoppable around the basket.
I think MJ made weight lifting a bigger thing than it is. I think there are plenty of players who don't hit the weight room for various reasons. Muscle can slow you down. NBA is a fast paced game. IT isn't football.
Considering how well he's played, learning a new team on the fly, I'd say work with coaches and keep doing whatever he has been. I'm nervous about making huge changes.
2 names. Scottie Pippen. He was skinny as a rail in his rookie season. Jordan too. Both Sheed and Rip should have got their asses in the weight room. It's not about weight even though sometimes it is. It's much more about strength.
Sure but getting in the weight room isn't some huge change. Most kids start weight training sophomore year in high school.
