Knight said. ?He provides us with another veteran presence, and brings a great deal of regular season and postseason experience to our club.?Entering his third stint with the Hawks, Johnson has played in 40 games this season with the Mavericks, averaging 3.8 ppg, 2.0 apg and 1.2 rpg in 14.1 mpg (.411 FG%, .724 FT%).</div>I like this for Atlanta a lot. AJ is a good veteran presence to have, he's been there/done that, he's got some leadership qualities, and Atlanta needs another point guard. Good deal for Atlanta.
The trade deadline is 3 hours away, and Anthony Johnson is the biggest name being moved. I love this game...

Remember in 2005 when some teams got trade deadline extensions and the next thing we knew, Baron Davis and Antoine Walker were dealt?

It could be like last year when the best player dealt on the deadline was Earl Watson. :no3: As far as the trade goes, Atlanta pulled a steal on this one. I think to a certain extent Anthony Johnson is underrated, a 2nd round pick for him is a bargain. I don't really think the Hawks NEED another point guard considering they already have Tyron Lue, Speedy Claxton, Royal Ivey, and Salim Stoudamire gets minutes at the point guard spot. They don't need another point guard, but it doesn't hurt them.

I like the deal for Atlanta. Also, I never said we'd have any Baron Davis-esque deals today, but calling deadline day a wash 3 hours before? Come on.
Well, this certainly doesn't hurt the Mavericks by any means. It does give us another 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft. Maybe we can package it with our other 2nd round pick and get Oden or Durant. :HAHAHA: Anyways, like I siad, it frees up a roster spot for a big that we need. I'd rather have a 3 string center than a 3rd string point guard with our roster. I'm thinking that this is what management is thinking as well. And on the draft picks though, maybe it can help move us into the 1st round at least. Johnson really wasnt getting the minutes to be effective in games and honestly wasnt a good fit for our team. Not saying he's a bad player, but just not a great one in the Mavericks system. He's not enough of a threat off screens, isnt that great of a shooter, and is pretty slow compared to other points in the NBA. I dont think is going to hurt us at all.
wow what a blockbuster deal. this may possibly be the most exciting trade deadline ever. I mean jake tskalidis for scott padgett, melvin ely for eric williams and damn, the elusive unguardable anthony johnson for a 2nd rounder. these deals are great...............pauseseriously is there any point to trade crappy players for crappy players? none of them even get minutes on their teams. why not just waive these wastes?

Teams feel comfortable with their rosters and that's why there's hardly any blockbuster moves. On this trade, I dislike it if Mavs decide to stand pat. Meaning no free agent pickup or another trade. We basically just gave a good insurance pg for a pick. A 2nd rounder at that, I know the draft is supposed to be deep. So least were in it but we should have got somebody out of this. I don't think a 2nd rounder would be hard to pickup closer to the draft. Like pj pointed out, Mavs did not want to cut Barea/Pops, so this creates a roster space. So who Mavs get to the spot, is when I'll give my grade on the deal.
this trade and all of the trades are meaningless at this point. none of the guys have anything to contribute to a team. that's what's up my ass. the nba hypes up the trade deadline with all of these big names and not one of them is getting traded. all the guys that were traded suck. they're not even worth talking about and we have 2 threads talking about these no-names getting traded. the raps got a good player in dixon but seriously they don't need another guard.

Why didn't we get him back? I was so dissapointed when we traded AJ and I still am. I wish we still had him. I mean the guy scored 40 on J-Kidd in the playoffs and we trade him? AJ is a good point guard and I wish him best of luck.

The biggest winner of this sad trade deadline is the Mavericks. They traded a positon they did not need and got a high 2nd Rd pick cause the Hawks suck in the 07' draft. A chance for Dallas to get even nastier if their pick ends up being a gem.
This leaves us with 0 draft picks, if we don't get top 3. Which is not good, but we do pick up a decent vet. This trade really doesn't matter to me, because I doubt AJ will see alot of time - and we lost another pick.. I think Dallas got the better end
This isn't anything major, but it was good for both teams because it gave Dallas another draft pick and Atlanta got a good, solid, matured point gaurd.
I don't see how Dallas got the better end when they basically gave up a player for nothing. Dallas has 3 second round picks now and with guys like Ager, Pops and Barea on the team. I don't believe Dallas will be keeping those picks, instead trying to pawn them off in a later deal, possibly for a first rounder. Atlanta is the winner, simply because they got something of value.
