He didn't have two herniated disks in his back when this season started. Those vertebra are causing numbness and pain in his hip. This is causing him to lose strength. He is not the same player at this point. You see the difference here right?

He still shouldn't have been re-signed. It was a bad move pre and post injury.

Meyers of last season is definitely worth 10 mil in today's NBA, especially when you add in his age and the possibility of improvement. That's a lot more justifiable than losing him for nothing. It's not like his signing prevented any other signings either, since we were already over the cap.

Not every move works out. That doesn't mean it shouldn't have been made. The Afflalo trade is another example of this.

Completely agree on the Afflalo trade. That's just common sense.

However, I don't and haven't seen any improvement of Meyers in the last 2-3 years to justify it. Nor do I see that he can improve - injury or not.

I guess if it was 2 yrs/20 mil, I wouldn't argue. But 4 years of it at any price... I just don't see it.

Unfortunately I think he's reached his ceiling with us. But I still think there's possibility that he could become a rotation player with another team, in another system, under another coach. For that reason, and the fact that his contract didn't/doesn't impact our ability to sign other FAs, I don't think his contract is that big of a deal. We should be able to move him fairly easily, but there's really no point in moving him unless or until we've moved either Crabbe or Turner. One of those two is the lynch pin to relieving our salary issues - once one is traded, then dumping guys like Aminu, Ed, and Meyers will make more sense as the savings will begin to give us flexibility and options.

I guess I am more looking at is as "why did we sign him at all" versus "We signed him for cheaper" - he's too expensive at any price.

And I guess this is where our opinions differ. I still think he's an asset - but not a very valuable one. You clearly think he has negative value, and I just don't agree.

If we didn't sign him we wouldn't have anymore flexibility than we currently have, and we wouldn't have been able to sign someone else, so signing him really doesn't have a negative impact on the team unless we hit "repeater" territory. But that's Neil's job, and he should be the one to draw ire if he can't avoid it due to Meyers' contract...but I think he'll manage to avoid it. At worst Meyers is a $10M towel-waver.

Has it been stated when he actually hurt his back? Just wondering. The only thing at all that I have seen on the topic is the interview he did with Quick, that I made a thread on. Nothing was mentioned in it. Myself, I had to wonder how long ago he did get injured, and if it was before he got resigned.

I have a really hard time blaming Neil for the Afflalo trade.

    1. He didn't know that Wes was going to tear his Achilles. The season was essentially over at that point.

    2. Afflalo got hurt and really shouldn't have played the rest of the year. He was a shell in the playoffs.

    3. Neil didn't expect LMA to check out in the playoffs. Maybe he should have. I blame Neil/Paul for LMA more than I blame them for Afflalo.

    4. They ended up with Barton, who many Denver fans hate, TRob (who is already gone), Victor Claver (who is no longer in the NBA), and a pick that ended up being the 15th and they took Juan Hernangomez.

It was a gamble that he took to try to give us a shot at contending, and our season exploded in his face. He didn't know Wes was going to get hurt, he didn't know that LMA was a spineless piece of shit, and he didn't know that Afflalo was going to hurt his shoulder. What can you do?

And their payroll will be $89M giving them $12-$14M in cap space.

He should have. He had close personal contact with him, and I've never so much as brushed shoulders with the guy. Yet I, and a few others, knew him for what he was just by seeing him on TV.

Shit, didn't realize they were in that good of cap position.

Well if they strike out on the big names they always go after then they can have Meyers for a future 2nd for all I care.

And that's why some of us, IE me, BrianfromWa and MM, were so vocal about trading him. We really wanted him gone when the rumors first popped up that he wanted out. I have to wonder if we couldn't have gotten Wiggins from Cleveland before they dealt for Love, or there were rumors that the Warriors were offering Klay the summer before. Either way, we could have gotten something out of him instead of nothing.

Thought the same thing earlier, but it sounds so painfully awkward I just couldn't post it.

If it had something to do with Meyers Leonard, I'd have posted it (because he is so painfully awkward).
